A Dickens of a Good Day Raises £175

On Saturday 22nd November The Dickensian Day, organised by the High Peak Mayor’s Charity Committee, was once again a huge success with thousands of people passing through the doors of the Octagon in Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens.  The event transforms the great hall into a colourful Victiorian street scene of over fifty stalls with stall holders and street entertainers all dressed in Dickensian style.

The Day The Lights Went Out

On Monday 17th November Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called out to search for a lone walker lost in the thick mist and murk on Kinder Scout.  Four other Peak District teams and four search dogs were also called for a major search of the plateau.  For such a call-out a well prepared action plan is set in motion whereby each team knows what is expected of it and where to rendezvous.

Regular shoppers at Waitrose, the high street grocery supermarket, have nominated Buxton Mountain Rescue Team as one of the four local charities to benefit from a share of £1,000 from “Waitrose Community Matters” scheme.

Just how much of the £1,000 the team will receive will depend on the votes cast by shoppers at the Buxton, Spring Gardens branch in the four weeks between Sunday 23rd November and Sunday 21st December.   So please get down to Waitrose Buxton and cast your vote.

Water Company Fills a Bucket

United Utilities, the UK’s largest water company, supplies water to seven million households in the North West and has just filled a bucket for the rescue team.  No, not with water, but with £250 from its Community Partnerships Fund.  The team qualified for the donation through a “matched giving” scheme whereby United Utilities promises to match the sum (up to a set ceiling) raised by its employees for a charity.  Employee and team member Andy Peet has been working hard in his own …

75 Years of Experience Recognised

At a short informal presentation at the team base on Monday 10th November, three members received 25 Years of Service certificates from the Team Chairperson, Ian Hurst.

All three members have long records of operational service but have also contributed to the success of the team in many other roles.

Richard Doran (centre left) is still an Operational Member but now also Honorary Secretary to the team Trustees.

Cubs Learn the Ropes

Twenty cubs from the 14th Burbage Pack, Buxton, dropped in at the rescue team base at Dove Holes on Monday night for an opportunity to see what rescue is all about.

Whaley Bridge Ladies Circle

Thanks to the fantastic efforts of the members of Whaley Bridge Ladies Circle the rescue team is £560 better off.

The ladies decided to make Buxton Mountain Rescue Team their “Charity of the Year” and have been busy for the last twelve months raising money through all sorts of events.  The fruits of their labours were formally presented at a Circle meeting at Whaley Bridge United Church on Friday 7th November.  Team members Zoe Lingard and Peter Parker, who gratefully received the cheque, were able to pass on the team’s sincere thanks for the all work and effort.
