Happy New Year from the Team

The Trustees and Members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team wish all its supporters and helpers a Very Happy and Peaceful New Year.
2008 was a very busy year with the team being called-out over eighty times and even on Christmas Day.  The team dog handlers were busy too recording an additional fourteen call-outs in support of other teams or regions.

Mountain rescue is always multi agency task and every Buxton Team call-out will involve some of our full time colleagues in the Police, Fire, Ambulance, RAF, National Park or Warden Services.   Unseen faces also help by receiving …

Well, Well, Well, Wormhill

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team says a big thank-you to the Wormhill Well Dressing and Festival Sports Committee for its generous donation of £50 towards the team’s funds.  Wormhill is a tiny village on the outskirts of Buxton which, like so many other villages in Derbyshire, continues the age old tradition of Wells’ Dressing.

Thousands of tiny flower petals are pressed into beds of clay to make up wonderful pictures depicting local scenes or events.  The finished tableaux are then erected over the ancient wells which have supplied drinking water to the villages  for …

Shopping List Grows

At a recent committee meeting the team Trustees were asked to consider funding two additional items and entailing major expenditure.  The team is already committed to providing a third set of operational casualty care equipment so that the kit normally carried on our two vehicles can be replenished immediately following an incident.  Likely expense = £5,000

One new proposal is for the replacement of the team’s personal-use lamps with the latest LED technology lamps.  Several modern battery powered lamps are now on the market which are much lighter in weight, much brighter and promote longer battery life.   The committee decided to investigate the market further before making any final decision and approval was given for the purchase …

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to ………..

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team wishes Ged Scott of Cheadle Heath, Stockport, a very special happy birthday and a big thank you for his most generous donation.

Ged recently celebrated his 70th birthday and as a life long walker and climber decided he would like to help the rescue team.   He very unselfishly donated the value of his birthday presents to the rescue team raising £130.

Ged’s donation is very timely as the team has just had to spash out £900 for a new power generator.

Congratulations Ged, (pictured above with wife Pauline) and many thanks …
