It’s a great full day out for all the family and we would really like to meet you there.

For the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, the annual Chatsworth Country Fair is by far the biggest single fundraising event in our calendar.  Held in the grounds of the Duke of Devonshire’s home at Chatsworth House, the fair attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The team assist the organisers by selling programmes at the venue gates each day.  By way of thanks, we are permitted to hold a blanket collection at each entrance/exit and …

Mud, sweat and beers. The 3 Peaks’ story

In the early hours of a July weekend, three intrepid team members (Kerry Clarke, Andy Hennell and Vicki Gilmore) stumbled out of a B&B in Ingleton intent on conquering the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge. After weeks of preparation and fund-raising and some serious carb-loading the night before (the local Italian does a fine “Three Peaks Pizza”) we set out at 06.30 into the morning sunshine (not really, this is the UK remember).

Our support crew, consisting of Kerry’s husband, Mike, and Andy’s wife, Sue, were primed and ready for action (which involved …

Jerry Rawson

It will be with great sadness that members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team will attend to pay their last respects at the funeral of Gerald Rawson on Friday 21st August.

Jerry had played a significant role in …

Searching gets high tech! (but useless)

Knowing how hard people work to raise money for the team we try our best to look after everything that you purchase.   Every operational item is checked weekly to make sure it is in top notch condition and it was during one such routine inspection that an item was noticed to be missing.

Where was it? When was it last used?  An internal enquiry was launched leaving no stone (or in this case, no fern) unturned.  The vehicles were emptied and searched, and rucksacks …

Say it with flowers

A magnificent donation of £500 has been made to the team from St Katherines church in Rowsley.

St Katherines church at Rowsley near Bakewell holds a annual flower festival. Each year it chooses a different charity to benefit from the donations received throughout the week of floral displays.

This year the festival organisers chose Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and, in a particularly successful festival, hundreds of visitors generously gave money to help the church and the rescue team.

This is another fine example of the local community spontaneously supporting the work of mountain rescue …

Mount Kenya, 4,985 metres and I don’t like heights!

In September, Debbie Marsden from Ashbourne in Derbyshire, together with a group of friends, will set out to conquer Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa.  The intended route is via the Sirimon Traverse and Debbie wants to make the trek worthwhile by raising some cash for the Buxton Mountain Rescue team in the process.

Her enthusiasm for the expedition has come as a surprise to those who know her fear of heights.  Debbie normally spends most of her leisure time going in totally the opposite direction as a scuba diver.  However, she has decided to temporarily exchange …

Coast to Coast success

Last weekend nine year old James Martin walked into Robin Hood’s Bay having completed the 192 miles of Wainwright’s famous route, the Coast to Coast.

James, with big brother Josh (13 years) and mum, Michelle, endured some atrocious weather in their fifteen day expedition from St Bees Head, through the Lake District and over the North Yorkshire Moors to arrive in Robin Hood’s Bay.   The walk was in memory of the boys’ Nana Nana which inspired them to raise money for the British Heart Foundation but James also wanted to support Mountain Rescue …
