Across the width of Britain

Mel and Mike Cartwright, residents of Buxton, decided they wanted to do a sponsored walk to support their local Mountain Rescue team – us. We’re very pleased to report that they succeeded in this, completing the physical challenge in just over 2 weeks last month. We’re equally happy about the success of their fund-raising efforts which currently stands at £1,600 – with more to come.

Mike kindly wrote up a brief account of the walk, and sent us these photo’s.

Mel and I picked up a pebble each on the beach at St Bees near Whitehaven on the Irish Sea and …

A refreshing walk

It’s not everyday a Mountain Rescue Team attracts a donation of over £1000. Luckily for us in Buxton, there are plenty of pubs and no shortage of people willing to walk a scenic route between them – not just for themselves, but in order to support local charities.

It may be easy to miss a small small pub located in a village near Macclesfield, but not the substantial donation they raised and gave the team recently. Richard, the landlord of the St. Dunstan Inn, Langley, coordinates with 10 other …

Ramblers come to aid

P.A.L.L.G.O. Rambling Club has come to the aid of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team with a £500 donation. Prelongs Active Life for Local Government Officers (PALLGO) is a rambling club from the Crewe area which has worked hard all year to support the rescue team.

The club’s generous donation will be used to purchase a computer and printer for use in the team’s new Incident Control Vehicle. This is currently being fitted out at our Dove Holes base. The computer will enable printing of specific search maps and will record details of all communications and actions.

The theft of the chocolate bunny ears

Over 50 patrons of the Rose and Crown pub were recently set a challenge to investigate the mysterious loss of hearing for a large chocolate bunny. It was last seen fully intact on the bar of the pub.

Thanks to the generosity of customers at the murder mystery evening, a terrific £250 was collected for the Buxton MR team. In addition, a fantastic separate donation of £100  was made by a local man who unfortunately couldn’t make the evening.

The Rose and Crown has been open under the new management …
