Just as team members were settling down to their evening meal, the team was called out to Fernilee Reservoir to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service

A mountain biker had fallen on uneven ground resulting in a painful shoulder injury and damaged ribs.

Grindsbrook 

Thursday evenings is the team’s training night and this week we were conducting a training exercise at Sparrowpit. Halfway through the evening, just as our ‘casualty’ had been loaded onto the stretcher, there was a shout from the site manager to end the exercise as a call out had come through.

Team members quickly packed all the kit away and hurriedly made their way back to the car park.

Team vehicles, operational members together with trainees then headed over to Edale to attend the call out.

Monsal Head

Two sisters had just set off for a walk from the Monsal Head car park to visit the viaduct. Unfortunately, just after starting the descent one of the sisters slipped on the very polished limestone rocks causing an injury to the left ankle.

East Midlands Ambulance Service was first on the scene to administer pain relief and place the injured leg into a box splint.

Team members then arrived to transfer the casualty onto a mountain rescue stretcher for a short carry to the awaiting ambulance.

Three Shires Head

As the Three Shires is located where the counties of Cheshire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire meet, a 999 call can be patched through to one of three ambulance, police or fire & rescue authorities.

A report had been received that a person had fallen into the water and sustained head injuries.

With this call, West Midlands Ambulance Service and Northwest Ambulance Service were tasked, along with the North West Air Ambulance Charity, callsign Helimed 75 from Barton.

The Roaches

The team was requested to assist North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust HART with a climber who was reported to have fallen between 2-3 metres whilst on the Black & Tans route, and was now stuck on a ledge.

By the time the team arrived on the scene, the climber’s friends had managed to lower the casualty to the ground.

Monsal Trail

A family group was out walking along the Monsal trail, when one member of the group slipped and fell over 6 metres down into the river. The casualty appeared to have momentarily lost consciousness whilst in the water. A member of the walking group descended and performed basic first aid, and as a result the casualty regained consciousness.

The Roaches

A report was received from Staffordshire Police that a young person out enjoying the craggy outcrop of the Roaches, had become stuck somewhere in the vicinity of the Don Whillans Hut and reported that they could also see Hen Cloud.

We attempted to use phone-find to ping the exact location but were unsuccessful.

When team members arrived in the area, they located the casualty who thankfully was able to be released from his stuck position by one of the team.

Monsal Trail

A young walker had decided to try and extend his view along the trail by climbing above one of the tunnel entrances, subsequently becoming crag fast! A dog walker tried to implement a rescue but was unsuccessful.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service was first on the scene and requested additional resources from Buxton mountain rescue. Both agencies worked closely and successfully were able to safely rescue the young walker and dog walker.

Both were assessed by members of East Midlands Ambulance Service before returning home just after midnight….

Mam Tor

Both Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team responded to assist a walker who had suffered a lower right leg injury whilst descending the steps from the summit to Mam Nick.

The casualty was administered pain relief and carried on a mountain rescue stretcher to a friend’s car, which then transferred the casualty to the hospital.

Broadlea Bank To

A walker enjoying the Edale valley was reported to have injured an ankle.

As with all midweek call-outs, both Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Buxton teams responded.

The first members to arrive at the rendezvous point in Edale met the walker, who had been kindly assisted to the village by two walkers.

Both teams were stood down, with three Buxton members waiting with the casualty until a East Midlands Ambulance Service arrived.
