Bleaklow

Search dogs Megan and Zak, along with their handlers, Dave Mason and Nick Smith, were called to assist Glossop and Kinder Mountain Rescue Teams with a search for a vulnerable male.

The search was later widened to include Buxton, Edale, and Woodhead Mountain Rescue Teams, that is, 5 teams in all – plus five other search dogs.

Hardwick Hall vicinity

A two day search to assist Derby MRT locate a missing 41 yr old male.

Search Dog, Megan, and handler Dave were called to an area of dense woodland in the vicinity of Hardwick Hall. Derby Team members and 3 other SARDA dogs were involved. No trace of the missing man was found.

The search resumed the following day, having handed over to Search Dog, Zak and his handler, Nick. Zak located the male, sadly deceased, in dense woodland.

Alfreton

Two Buxton Search Dogs, along with their handlers were called to assist Derby team with a search in the Alfreton area. Dog teams from Kinder and Edale also involved.

Sandiacre, Nottingham

Call out for SARDA to assist Derby Mountain Rescue in a search of a canal and river area at Sandiacre after a car belonging to a 70 year old man was found.

Search Dog, Zak, with his handler, Nick Smith, from Buxton MRT responded along with John Coombs and Search Dog, Biscuit, from Edale MRT. They searched an area of land between the River Erewash and the Erewash Canal.

Grindsbrook, Kinder

SARDA dogs were called on Sunday evening to search for a missing couple on the southern edges of Kinder.

The dogs were stood down when the couple were located by the police helicopter. Search Dog, Zak and his handler, Nick Smith, continued on the call-out as part of the Buxton team, assisting with the casualty evacuation. Further details on full team post.

Bleaklow

Search dogs were called to assist in a search for 2 males who reported themselves lost in thick fog on Bleaklow.

The two men had set off for a walk in the morning. They made Bleaklow Head before lunch, but after that the fog closed in and they reported they were not absolutely sure of their position from that point onward. As darkness fell they realised they were not going to get off without assistance, and called Mountain Rescue. They were on a steep valley side. Kinder Scout, Western edges

Buxton Search Dogs called to support Kinder MRT in a search for a male reported missing/overdue after a walk on Kinder Scout.

The male had left his route details with relatives and when he failed to return after his given time his car was located at Bowden Bridge car park.

As the team and search dogs where being mobilised, the man walked off the hill and reported to control.

Lake District, Whinlatter area

Search dog, Zak, with his handler, travelled northwards to support Lake District Mountain Rescue Teams in a search for a missing female.

This was a pre-arranged search to assist police after they had received new information about the missing person’s last known location.

The female was not found in any of the search areas covered. Police enquiries are on-going.
