Kinder Low

On returning from a national SARDA training session in the Lake District, Search dog, Zak, with his handler, plus another Peak District dog team, were asked to help in a search on Kinder Scout.

The incident involved a couple from Nottingham who had got disoriented in the darkness and bad weather. For further details, see our post for the team on the same date.
The dog teams were stood down en-route when the couple were located by a Buxton foot section.

Lake District, nr Grassington

Whilst training on a National SARDA course in the Lake District, Search Dog, Zak, and his handler, Nick Smith, were put on stand by, to help police who were conducting a search for a missing person.

The dog team were called out of a training session to help search for a vulnerable male near Grassington. They were stood down when the male was located by police.

Owler Bar

Search dog Megan, with handler Dave Mason called to Owler Bar at 0800 to assist Edale team with a developing search as concern grew for a missing vulnerable male.

Megan and Dave were stood down whilst en route when the missing male was spotted trying to make his way back towards the rescuers. The gentleman was assisted by Edale team members and cared for until the ambulance arrived to convey him to hospital.

Melton Mowbray area

Mountain Rescue asked to assist Leicestershire Police in dense foggy weather to search for a missing person in the Melton Mowbray area. Search Dog, Zak, with his handler, Nick Smith, from Buxton team responded.

The missing person, a 79 year old man in a depressed state had left his car on a country lane at around 1500 the previous day. Initial searches by police and SARDA dog teams did not locate anything. Continuation of the search was planned for Derby Mountain Rescue team members at first light.

Belper

Dog handlers with their dogs were were called by SARDA at 0100 this morning to assist police with a search for a missing 73 year old vulnerable male. He was last seen at 2300 the previous evening.

Two from Buxton team, along with dog teams from two other MRTs responded to assist police dog handlers and local officers with searches of the area. A small section of Derby MRT personnel assisted with road head control and search planning.

The male was located at 0400 this morning, unharmed, on the opposite side of Belper by a local resident.

Kinder Low

Search Dog Megan with handler Dave Mason called in support of two teams searching for two mature men who had spent the night on Kinder Scout.  Dave and Megan got as far as Coldwell Clough before they were stood down when the men were located by helicopter.

River Dane

Dog Handler, Nick Smith, with Search Dog, Zak, called to support Buxton MRT to search after a canoeist was reported missing on the River Dane, near Gradbach, on Sunday afternoon.

The canoeist was found in the water about a quarter of a mile down river. All attempts to save her failed, and she was confirmed dead at the scene.

Kinder, Southern Edges

Search Dogs, Megan and Zak, along with their handlers, Dave Mason and Nick Smith, had an early wake-up call on Saturday morning to assist in a search of Kinder’s southern edges after a fell-runner was reported missing.

They were stood-down when Mountain Rescue personnel located the casualty at Crookstone Barn. See team post on same date for more details.

Goyt valley

Search Dog, Megan, and her handler, Dave Mason, were called to assist in a search for a missing person in the Goyt valley.

The search was conducted throughout the night and following day. Three other search dogs teams from within the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation, and plus one from Mid-Pennines were also involved.
