Marks and Spencer do it again!

After a summer of great fundraising events, the staff of Buxton’s Marks and Spencer branch have made another fantastic donation to Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

It was an early call for team members to the cheque presentation in Spring Gardens last Saturday.  Before the store opened for business M & S staff and team members gathered whilst Owen Dyde, Manager of the Buxton branch, presented team member Joe Rees with a cheque for a whopping £1,850.

New van for old

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team launches its latest public appeal to support the purchase of a new front line operational vehicle.

Discussions are already underway with potential vehicle suppliers to provide a replacement for the team’s “Mobile Two” which supports the first response Land Rover on nearly every call-out.  Operating two response vehicles, a Land Rover and a minibus, has proved to be a great success over the past few years giving the team flexibility to transport equipment, rescuers and casualties in all sorts of different situations.  However, the current minibus is beginning to show its …

Wedding Guests say “We will!”

It was a very special day to celebrate when earlier in the year a Whaley Bridge couple said, “I do” at their marriage ceremony. 

But the happy couple weren’t just thinking of themselves on their big day. In an act of fantastic generosity, Tim and Caireen asked their guests not to give the traditional wedding presents but to make a donation to charity instead.  And their guests all said “We will”, resulting in a magnificent donation of £1,050 for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.  When Gift Aid is reclaimed from the tax man the gifts will …

Chatsworth Country Fair 2010

Early September is the start of a new training calendar for Buxton Mountain Rescue team. After the summer break, team members also catch up with each other over three days of fundraising duty at Chatsworth Country Fair. Operational members, trainees, the support team, spouses, friends, family and relations – all pitch in.

Countdown to carnival day

This Saturday is a big event for the community of Dove Holes. Its their annual carnival.
It may not be on the scale of Notting Hill, but it is very much a welcoming community-based party with its own street parade of floats, accompanied by music from its own brass band.

There will be a variety of entertainment for all the family throughout the afternoon, including a galore of competitions, best decorated house, for instance, tug of war, Carnival King, and Court of Queens, as well as cake and vegetable shows.

Supporting the community that supports the Team

Long school holidays and wet summer days equals bored kids!   Solution – summer clubs.

When the team was approached to help at a local Buxton primary school, it was an opportunity for us to get the hill safety message across to a very young audience.  Four team members, including Search Dog Cap, visited Harpur Hill Primary School one morning last week.  Local mums had started a summer club to occupy and educate their children who would otherwise be watching television at home.

It’s personal – injured climber survives to say thanks

Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams were surprised but very pleased to hear from Tony Brock, a casualty they had attended a few months ago, see call-out in April 2010. With such a severe head injury it was not thought that he would survive. In the event that he did, it was assumed that he would have significant brain damage.

Tony, from Manchester, was climbing with a friend at Birchens Edge. Although he was wearing a helmet, when he fell he sustained a severe head injury. The first rescuers on scene found him drifting in and out of consciousness, with …

Its not just top fashion and fresh food that has appeared in Buxton’s Marks and Spencer this summer but a smart little red BMRT collection box is now at every check-out.
