Its not just top fashion and fresh food that has appeared in Buxton’s Marks and Spencer this summer but a smart little red BMRT collection box is now at every check-out.

Well dressed, Buxworth

Thanks to the generosity of visitors to the 2010 Buxworth Wells Dressing, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team has benefited from a donation of £300.

Each year three wells around the village are dressed with flower petals pressed onto boards of clay making elaborate colourful pictures.   Money raised from donations is passed onto a different charity each year.  This time the Buxworth Well Dressing Team decided on Buxton Mountain Rescue following the busy winter the rescue team had responding to non-mountain incidents in the severe snow conditions.

Garden party a blooming good day

The rescue team extends a really big thank-you to Eileen and Peter Blane for hosting a special garden event at their home on Temple Road, Buxton.

“Afternoon Tea in the Garden” on 3rd July was held as part of the Buxton United Reform Church’s 200 Year Celebrations and a fine day encouraged plenty of visitors.  The event was to raise money for both Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Blythe House Hospice.  Generous donations raised over £150 for the rescue team as visitors wandered around the garden full of unusual plants and shrubs.

A special service from Macclesfield students

A small group of students attending Macclesfield College has raised an amazing £680 for the rescue team.

The group of students, all with special learning needs, are participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and decided to raise money for a charity as part of the Service section of the award.  The students sometimes go walking in Macclesfield Forest and Teggs Nose and wanted to help those who might get injured in the area and the local mountain rescue team seemed an obvious choice.

Reliant Robins raise £4,200

On the 6th May two Reliant Robins left Chinley on a sponsored run to John O’Groats raising money for Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air-ambulance and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

Magnificent local sponsorship from both the public and private companies raised an amazing £8,400. This is to be shared between the two charities. Peter Corbett, event organiser, was able to proudly present the cheques at the annual Emergency Services Day .

High Peak Scaffolding tower above the rest

The practical crag rescue demonstrations at the annual Emergency Services Day is only possible with the cooperation and generosity of local firm, High Peak Scaffolding of  Waterswallows, Buxton.

For many years the company has supplied and erected a special tower free of charge for the team to display its skills.  This year was an additional challenge as, because of a wedding being held in Pavillion Gardens on the day before the event, construction of the tower could not start until the Sunday morning which meant …

999 Day success

The 13th annual Emergency Services Day took place at Pavilion Gardens in Buxton on Sunday 13th June and attracted thousands of visitors.  All aspects of the 999 services were represented mixing both the professionals and volunteers.

Freemasons support Buxton Mountain Rescue Team

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team received a cheque for £500 from the High Peak Lodge of Freemasons No: 1952. The Lodge meets in Buxton with members from the surrounding areas including Buxton, Chapel, Whaley Bridge and Tideswell.

The Lodge runs a charitable fund which is financed by regular donations from its members and social events. Its members can suggest any local voluntary charitable organisation to support and on this occasion chose the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team. An additional cheque for £250 was received from the Derbyshire County Charity Committee of Freemasons, as applied for by the High Peak Lodge.

Who let the dogs out?

Buxton search dogs will once again be attending an event to meet & greet and to explain to visitors the work of the Peak District Search & Rescue Dog Association teams.  Along with other SARDA Teams from the Peak they will be giving demonstrations of their work at regular intervals in the ring.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team Search Dogs will be at the National Trust Family Countryside Fair being held at Dunscar Farm, Castleton, Hope Valley (S33 8WA) this WhitSun weekend.
