Student’s Citizenship to raise team profile

Two young men from Sceptre School, an independent school in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, have chosen Buxton Mountain Rescue Team to benefit from their studies.

Fraser Denny and Glenn Hibbert are both studying for their GCSEs and for part of their coursework in “Citizenship” had to choose a project that would improve the awareness of a chosen organisation.   During a visit to the Peak District last year they saw BMRT in action and decided that this would be the group they wanted to concentrate on.

Quarrymen dig deep

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team is delighted to be the recipient of a generous donation of £200 from the Derbyshire Branch of  The Institute of Quarrying.

The unsolicited gift was a surpise to the team which in years gone by kept its equipment and vehicles in an old garage deep in Dove Holes Quarry.

The money was raised at an annual dinner dance and the decision to donate it to the rescue team was unanimous.  The team extends its sincere thanks to the Derbyshire Quarrry Institute  – another example of great local support for the team.

Strike a light! Carry a torch.

Winter will suddenly make its presence felt when the clocks go back in the early hours of Sunday 31st October.   Officially sunset drops back one hour from 5.38 pm on Saturday evening to 4.36 pm on Sunday evening.  It’s an hour that makes a world of difference to walkers coming off the upper slopes of the peak-land hills, and every year it catches someone out.

The clock change usually results in a spate off call-outs for local rescue teams assisting people who get caught out by the shorter days and early nightfalls.  …

It may not be a well known fact but singing “Nellie the elephant packed her trunk ….” whilst carrying out life-saving resuscitation actually helps with rhythm and timing.
