Power company boost money supply

Earlier this year the world famous mountaineer, Nigel Vardy, together with Derby Concert Band raised over £200 with a evening of music and mountain images entitled “Music with Altitude” at Buxton’s Octagon Room.

Now E-on UK, Nigel’s day job employer, has matched his efforts with a donation of another £200.   Nigel is a High Voltage Control Engineer with E-on, the UK’s largest power distributor, and as part of a company employee charity incentive scheme, E-on can match the sum Nigel raised for the team in March.

Packhorse Poets raise £130

A food-hamper, a baby Hartington cheese, three classy pub meals and a chip shop voucher were just some of the prizes on offer in a raffle run jointly by The Packhorse Poets and Hollinsclough Action Group.  The Packhorse Poets meet every third Wednesday at the Packhorse at Crowdecote and are a well known group which has given readings at many Buxton Festival Fringe events.  The Hollinsclough Action Group is a residents group trying to improve matters for the small village near Longnor.  It has a detailed web site depicting the history of the …

BAE Systems get their boots on

Over 150 employees of BAE Systems, the giant aeronautical company, swapped their slide-rules and calculators on Saturday for a pair of walking boots in a long distance challenge walk to raise money for the company’s national charity.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was asked to provide safety advice for this year’s annual event being held at Tittesworth Reservoir near The Roaches in Staffordshire.   In return BAE will make a donation towards the rescue team’s funds.

Team to spend another £14,000 of your money!

Thanks to the magnificent response from the public to the team’s appeal for funding to update and improve its rescue equipment the team is now set for the next round of spending.

At a meeting of the charity’s trustees on Monday evening it was unanimously agreed to release up to £14,000 for new communications and lighting equipment.   This follows on from the £5,000 already spent this year on new first aid and casualty monitoring equipment.

At the meeting the team’s Honorary Treasurer reported that the public had come up with an amazing variety of ways …

Collection box collection

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team’s network of counter-top collection boxes continues to grow and the team now has over ninety sites hosting a little red box.  The income from the collection boxes is varied with some raising just a few pounds a year to others raising hundreds of pounds but the total sum is truly beneficial to the team. 

In 2003 the team recognised that its collection box numbers had dropped to just a couple of dozen and income had dwindled to under £500.  A radical change was needed and a concentrated programme on managing a new collection box network was launched.   …

Eggcellent result

We have often marvelled at the lengths some people will go to to raise money for the team and a lady at a farm in Wincle, Cheshire joins the list of people with the most original ideas.   The lady witnessed the team in action last year when it was called to a casualty down by the River Dane. Since then she has been selling fresh eggs at the Ship Inn in the village.  As a result she has been able to donate £100 to the team from the proceeds.

High Peak Radio – sold to highest bidder!

High Peak Radio, the area’s local independent radio station, was five years old on 4th April. In celebration it has been able to donate over £4,500 to five charities as a result of its on-air Auction of Promises.

The total money raised is to be split between Manchester Children’s Hospice and local mountain rescue teams.  The proportion going to mountain rescue willbe shared amongst four teams in the High Peak Radio broadcast area: Kinder, Glossop, Edale and Buxton teams.  Buxton team will receive £600.

You raised it – we spent it !

Thanks to the many generous contributions from local clubs, businesses and individuals, the rescue team has now been able to purchase a totally new set of casualty care equipment which will be available for use by the end of this month.  A total of nearly £5,000 has been spent on replacements and additional equipment to enable the team to treat and monitor the condition of patients whilst in its care.

Time is RUNNING out!

Just TWO days left to pledge money in support of Phil Leigh in his bid to win the London Marathon on Sunday 26th April. 
On line donations have been a little disappointing so far and we are hoping for a late rush to urge Phil over the finishing line.

Phil is up and ready for the challenge as he goes into his last week of training.  Phil said, ” I am confident about finishing but I really want to achieve under four hours.”

Three members, three charities, three peaks!

Whernside, Ingleborough and Pen y Gent are three large hills in the North Yorkshire National Park and together make up the Yorkshire ‘Three Peaks’ mountain challenge.
