“If only I could thank them all!”

On Saturday 21st February Buxton and Edale teams got wind of a call-out on the old Mam Tor road near Odin Mine whereby a lady had been lifted off the ground and blown over by a strong gust (no she wasn’t named Gail).

The lady had sustained serious head injuries and gave team first aiders and an East Midlands Ambulance crew real cause for concern.  The extremely strong wind made treatment at site difficult and she was moved as quickly as possible but with great care to a waiting ambulance.   She was …

New members in and up

Three new members joined in regular team training for the first time last Thursday night.   The team welcomed Yolanda Blane, Paul Spedding and Andy Keen at the start of their provisional member training programme which will probably take at least twelve months before they achieve full operational member status.

Joining the team starts with a piratical assessment of navigation skills on Brown Knoll during which the applicants personal equipment and general hillcraft ability will be appraised.   Having successfully cleared that hurdle new applicants are welcomed as provisonal members and start a programme of training to ensure …

Petition to Government on VAT charges

Your chance to support the campaign to make Mountain Rescue VAT exempt.

Most people who donate to charity probably think that every penny they give goes towards helping that organisation achieve its aims.  In fairness it does but the problem starts when the charity spends the money and the Government creams off 15% (was 17.5%) in Value Added Tax.

Mountain Rescue teams are not businesses generating profits from commercial sales and are too small to register for VAT purposes.   This means that the teams have to pay VAT on nearly everything they buy.  (see News article, 5th March: Region Fights …
