Band Aid raises £350 x 3

A fabulous evening of brass music presented by Buxton’s Burbage Band on Friday night has benefited three separate charities.

Leicestershire & Rutland Air-ambulance, Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation, and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team will each receive £350 following the fundraising concert held at the Palace Hotel. 

Buxton team is really appreciative of another local group offering such support.  The money will go directly into the “new radio pot” which is now nearing the brim.  A total of £10,000 is needed to fund the purchase of new and additional sets which the team hope …

Team to assist at memorial walk

On Sunday 11th October a series of guided walks are to be led around Hayfield and Kinder as a tribute to the late Sir Martin Doughty.

Sir Martin had been Leader of Derbyshire County Council, founding Chairman of Natural England and Chairman of the Peak District National Park Authority and the Association of National Park Authorities.  He sadly succumbed to cancer in March at the age of 59.

That’s the distance from Buxton to New York and it’s a journey Steve Lee will be making very soon just to raise funds for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team. Steve will become the first supporter to enter an overseas event to raise money for us.

He will be flying to the USA ready for a 6am start on Sunday 1st November (New York time).

Rescued dog, rescued by, rescue dog handler

Freddie, a 2 year old dalmatian, has been rescued twice in a month. 

Freddie is the pet of a family in Cressbrook who have only had him for four weeks since finding him at Mackworth Dog Rescue Centre, Derby.  A friendly and lively animal he is the love and joy of James (13) and sister Acacia (11) who live in a tiny village close to the Monsal Trail.   James was walking Freddie on Thursday evening on the path above Water-cum-Jolly when the dog decided to get a little too close to the edge and, …

New personal best for fundraiser

The Great North Run held on the streets of Newcastle on Sunday saw a record number of entries for the 40th anniversary of the event.  It was Anglea Garton’s third time at running this famous half marathon which is claimed to be the biggest in the world with 54,000 runners.

Team member tackles First Aid

Mountains, dales or flat sports pitches, first aid is basically the same wherever you are: you never know when simple skills may be put to good use.

On Saturday 19th September a team member from Macclesfield was watching his son playing inter-school rugby when he witnessed a crunching tackle which left one of the King’s School players motionless on the pitch.  Having seen how the player had landed our man thought the worst may have occurred and immediately went to his aid.  With airway and breathing OK his next priority was to protect the boy’s …

Old van for sale

A rare opportunity to buy one of a limited edition of vintage Buxton Mountain Rescue Team toy vehicles that were sold in the 1980s as a fundraiser.   The model is a replica Ford Model T van, not that the team ever owned one of course, but it does depict an old version of the team emblem.

Team to cut ties with St John

At a landmark meeting of the charity trustees on Monday 14th September it was decided that the team should finally resign as a division of St John Ambulance.

The team became a division of St John in 1976 in an effort to improve the standard of the first aid training for team members.  At that time there were no first aid standards set by any authority within mountain rescue. By joining St John, Buxton MRT became the only rescue team in the country to demand that all its members held a recognised certificate of competence.   A major …
