Bernard meets Welly

A charity car wash held last Sunday was a huge success and the team sends a great big “Thank You” to all who supported it.

The event was organised by Derbyshire Fire & Rescue’s Buxton Blue Watch and included helpers from Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation and the local Barclay’s Bank staff .

The event received some much valued promotion from the Buxton Advertiser and High Peak Radio, which persuaded 115 motorists to turn up for a soapy sponge down.  £764 was raised on the day with promised match funding …

Police Find Coke at Corbar Cross

On a misty hill overlooking Buxton and the Goyt Valley sixteen members of Cheshire Police’s Operational Support Unit met with members of Buxton and Kinder Mountain Rescue Teams to share experiences of searching for missing people.

Our Own Angel of the North

He may not thank me for calling him that but anyone who spends months training, travels halfway up the Country and then runs 13.1 miles just to raise money for the team is an Angel.

Bruce Taylor of Taddington is no stranger to the BUPA Great North Run having taken part in 2008. He also ran in the London Marathon in 2009 raising sponsorship for the rescue team. Fallen Climbers Paddle to Success

In August 2012 two young rock climbers Jimmy Hyland and Jamie Fisher both from Buxton were climbing a route called The Prow on the Roaches near Leek when they had an accident. Both fell to the bottom of the climb and Jimmy sustained facial and wrist injuries whilst Jamie broke his ankle.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to the incident and after treatment the boys were evacuated by stretcher, Jimmy to the Midlands Air Ambulance and Jamie to a land ambulance.

After treatment in hospital both have made a full recovery and wanted to show their appreciation to the mountain …

Tyre Firm Jack-up Support

Local company, Steve’s Tyres and Exhausts, of Dale Road, Buxton, has helped Buxton Mountain Rescue Team secure extra cash to start the new year’s fundraising campaign.

Steve’s Tyres registered the rescue team in tyre manufacturer, Kumho Tyres’, 2012 Cash for Causes programme.  The result was a generous £350 award to the team.  The money will go towards the team’s “Shut That Door” project which aims to renew the vehicle doors at the Dove Holes base.

Despite getting predictably cold and wet, Jimmy, Jamie, & friends survived their exploit along a 4 mile stretch of the river Derwent on Boxing Day.

Rescue Team says Thanks for another successful year

It’s nearly the end of another year and 2012 has been as busy as ever for Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.  To date, we have assisted over 100 people on 75 full team call outs. Our search and rescue dog handlers, have attended 26 call-outs, many further afield that the teams operational area. The incidents have represented all sorts of difficulties for people out and about on the Peak District moors and dales: some just got lost and were grateful for guidance off a foggy hill, and others had serious injuries needing medical care and a stretcher evacuation.

Quiz Winners Announced

The winners in Gill Halliday’s fourth fundraising quiz in aid of Buxton MRT were announced today but the biggest winner is undoubtedly the rescue team.

Gill has a passion for writing quiz questions and then compiles them onto a single sheet of 60 questions which she sells at just £1 each.  Her latest quiz, which has been running since July, has raised a fantastic £180 and brings the total raised by Gill to over £600.
