Hope Valley

A joint Buxton/Edale snatch squad was called this afternoon to assist the ambulance service with an incident alongside the River Derwent in the Hope Valley between Hathersage and Shatton.

The casualty, a 72 year old woman from the Chesterfield area, had been walking along the riverside path when she slipped and fell, tumbling c.10 feet down a steep section of riverbank onto tree roots. She sustained injuries to her shoulder and back. Blue John Cavern, Castleton

A joint Buxton Edale snatch squad, together with Derbyshire Cave Rescue Organisation, was called to Castleton around lunchtime to assist the ambulance service with a injured person in one of the showcaves.

The ambulance service were already on site when we arrived and treating the casualty, a 64 year old lady from Northwich, Cheshire. She had slipped on one of the steps and fell, injuring her lower back as she hit the hard surface. She was in severe pain, and treated by paramedics on site. They requested full spinal immobilisation before any evacuation. Her location was c.400 metres below the surface …

Crowden Tower, Kinder

A joint Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Team snatch squad wascalled to Barber Booth, Edale on Tuesday afternoon.

A 15 year old girl from Chesterfield was taking part in an outdoor activity day in the Crowden Tower area on the southern edge of Kinder Scout. She slipped on the wet ground and jarred her back, aggravating a previous injury which immobilised her.

Team members climbed the steep hillside to Crowden Tower carrying all the heavy equipment required for a stretcher evacuation.

Heaton Prk area, Manchester

Search dog, Zak, and his handler, Nick, along with 3 other dog teams called to assist Oldham MRT, and Rossendale and Pendle MRT with a search in the Heaton Park area of Manchester.

The missing person was a 73 year old male. One of the other dog teams located the male within the search area, sadly deceased.

Crowden Tower

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called out late on Saturday night following a request from Derbyshire Police to assist a 23 year old male from Peterborough who had become disorientated after setting off from Edale on a circular route of Kinder Scout.

The controller was able to speak to the missing man and identify his approximate location. A party of mountain rescue volunteers were able to quickly locate the missing man safe and well in the Crowden Tower area. After some food and a hot drink, he was escorted off the hill back to Edale.
