Hinkley, Leicester

Buxton Search and Rescue Dogs were called from a fund-raising event in Bakewell to assist Derby Team to search for a vulnerable male who had gone missing in the Hinkley area of Leicester.

After travelling 70 miles to the rendezvous, the search dogs worked with the Derby team to search the area and concluded their search at midnight having not located the missing man.

Police enquiries are continuing.

Longstone Edge

On Sunday morning, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called away from the High Peak Emergency Services show in Buxton to assist Edale Mountain Rescue Team at an incident on Longstone Edge, near Bakewell.

The incident involved a 47 year old male from Sheffield, an experienced mountain biker, riding on Longstone Edge with a group of friends. Apparently he braked to avoid an oncomimg vehicle and went over the handlbars, hitting the hard surface track.

Despite wearing a helmet he sustained serious head injuries. He was treated on site by doctors and paramedics from two air ambulances, which had landed nearby. Medical intervention …

Cow Low, nr. Cave Dale

On Thursday afternoon both Buxton and Edale MRT’s were called to the Speedwell Cavern, Castleton, by the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

A 74 year old gentleman, from the Bury area, hillwalking with his daughter had slipped and fallen whilst descending a gully between Long Cliff and Cow Low. He sustained a serious fracture to his hip, having slipped on the wet limestone and fallen some 6 metres, landing in a precarious location.

He was treated on site by a rescue team doctor and ambulance service paramedics. Rope belays were set up and the casualty was lowered in a stretcher some 20 metres …

Stanage Edge

A joint Buxton & Edale snatch squad call to Stanage on Monday afternoon. A paraglider pilot crashed whilst attempting to take off from Stanage Edge.

The man fell about 10 metres. He sustained injuries to his spine and pelvis together with a serious leg fracture. He was treated on site by the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance paramedics along with Edale Team paramedics.

He was then placed on a stretcher and carried by team personnel to the helicopter waiting by the roadside and flown to the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, for further treatment.

Roaches ridge

As a climbing incident was closing, we were asked to assist the ambulance service with a 29 year old male walker from the Stoke area who had sustained a painful knee injury whilst walking the Roaches Ridge.

The man was treated on site by ambulance service paramedics, placed onto our specialist stretcher and carried by team members some 500 metres to the ambulance waiting at the Roaches Gate.

He was then transferred to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire for further treatment.
