Ashover, nr. Matlock

A Buxton Seach Dog unit was called to assist Derby Mountain Rescue Team to search for a missing man.

The 37 year old man, from Stoke On Trent, had last been seen in the morning of the previous day and the police had cause to be concerned for his safety. It was believed that the missing man was possibly in the area of Ashover, near Matlock. A coordinated search of the dense woodland in the surrounding area was undertaken.

Bleaklow

Search Dog, Megan, and her handler, along with 5 other dog teams, called to assist Glossop and Kinder MRTs in a search for a missing person.

The person, a vulnerable man, was found around 8pm by one of the search dogs. He was suffering from hypothermia and evacuated back to Snake Summit.

A waiting land ambulance transported him onwards for further treament.

Rivelin Valley, Sheffield

Buxton Search Dog Megan with handler, Dave Mason, called by South Yorkshire Police to join forty members of Edale and Woodhead Rescue Teams in The Rivelin Valley, Sheffield.  Four other search dogs were also involved in trying to locate a female in the dense woodland area.  After two hours the woman was located by Search Dog Flash of Edale team.  Suffering from hypothermia the casualty was carried to a waiting ambulance for transfer to hospital.

Carr Vale, Bolsover

Search dog, Megan, along with three other SARDA dogs were requested to assist Derby and Woodhead MRTs with the search for a missing male in the Carr Vale area.

The missing person, a young man of 21, had not been home for several days. Despite an extensive search of the locality, nothing was found.

Police enquiries are ongoing.

Derwent Dams, Upper Derwent Valley

Search dog, Megan, and her handler from Buxton Mountain Rescue responded to a request from Edale team to assist in a search for a missing person.

The person, a 60 year old male, had got separated from his family during the Dam Busters 70th anniversary celebrations that day.

Both dog and handler stood down en-route, when it was clear that the man had returned to the family’s vehicle.

New Mills

Search Dog, Megan, and her handler, were called to assist the mutliple agencies deployed in searching for a missing person.

The dog unit reported to Kinder Mountain Rescue team’s base in Hayfield. As they were being briefed, a positive find was reported.

North Wingfield, south of Chesterfield

Search Dog, Megan, and her handler, were called to assist Derby MRT to search for a missing person after initial police activity had not located her.

The person, a 73 year old woman, was believed to have left her house at 6am. She had not returned within a resonable time despite the harsh weather conditions which was very wet and cold with snow. 31 rescue team volunteers and 5 mountain rescue search dogs were inolved in the subsequent operation, searching fields, woodland, and areas of waste ground on the outskirts of the town.

Kinder Low

A Buxton Search Dog Unit was called as part of a full team response to a disorientated walker on the Kinder plateau.

The unit was en-route when the situation was resolved and a stand-down was issued.
