Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called on Saturday lunch time to the Pennine Bridleway to assist the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.

The casualty, a 40 year old male from Derby, was mountain biking with friends when he hit a rock and was catapulted over the handlebars. He landed heavily and suffered a dislocated shoulder. Monsal Trail, nr Millers Dale

A Buxton and Edale team snatch squad was called to Millers Dale, following reports of a fallen person down the embankment near to the Litton Tunnel at Litton Mill.

The casualty, an 11 year old boy from Sheffield, had tumbled some 8 metres down the embankment landing on a ledge, sustaining back and chest injuries. He was treated on site by an East Midlands Ambulance Service paramedic. A rope rescue system was set up by team members along with crew of the Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service Rope Rescue Unit, from Matlock. Cumberland Clough

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called by the North West Ambulance Service to assist with an incident involving an injured mountain biker.

On arrival the team was met by ambulance crews saying the air ambulance was deaing with the situation.

The team was stood down, and the casualty was flown to Wythenshaw Hospital, Manchester, for treatment.

Hartington

Buxton Mountain Rescue called out to an injured walker on the outskirts of Hartington after dark on Christmas Eve. Derby Search and Rescue were also at scene.

The casualty, a 68 year old man from Birmingham, who was staying with friends at Hartington YHA, had a knee problem which had become progressively worse during a walk.  He was treated on site by team members and carried by stretcher to Bridge End Farm, where he was transferred to a Derby team vehicle and driven to the road end to await an ambulance.

Blue John Cavern, Castleton

A joint Buxton Edale snatch squad responded to an incident in the Mam Tor area.

The casualty, a 58 year old female from Mapperley, nr Nottingham, had slipped and suffered an ankle injury. Team members carried her by stretcher the relatively short distance to the road.

No ambulance was available.

Mam Tor

A joint Buxton Edale snatch squad was called  to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service with a casualty on the hillsides near Odin Mine below Mam Tor.

Heavy rain had made the hillside extremely slippery turning recognised paths in to mud trails. The casualty, a lady from Nottingham, was on a short walk celebrating her 60th birthday when she slipped and sustained a fractured upper leg.  Mountain Rescue first aiders followed by an MR Doctor treated the lady, administering pain relief before she was carefully placed on a rescue stretcher for the carry down to a waiting land ambulance.

Monksdale

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were called away from a fundraising event on the Staffordshire Roaches to attend the scene of a walking accident in Monks Dale, near Tideswell.

The casualty, a 48 year old man from Sutton Coldfield, had slipped in the very wet conditions and sustained a suspected fracture of his right ankle.  The steep sides and narrow limestone tracks of Monks Dale made access to the casualty difficult but team members were able to treat the injury and offer pain relief.  The evacuation on a stretcher was hampered by narrrow tracks in muddy conditions, and very slippy limestone rocks …

Goyt Valley

A major search was launched in the Goyt Valley when Cheshire Police discovered the car of a man whose welfare they had cause to be concerned about.

The missing man, Kevin Bird, 51, was reported missing from home in Poynton earlier in the day.   A police helicopter was tasked to search the area around Errwood and Fernilee reservoirs and police officers from both Cheshire and Derbyshire Constabularies started a search in the immediate vicinity around Errwood Hall.

Frogatt Edge

A joint Edale Buxton snatch squad was called at lunch-time to assist the ambulance service for an injured walker.

The casualty, a 65 year old man, was part of a walking group from m Chesterfield. They set off to walk along the edge just above Surprise View.
The weather was cold and underfoot conditions were icy. The man slipped over a rock, sustaining a head injury. This made him inactive and confused. He was treated on site by paramedics, and then carried on a mountain rescue stretcher for about 200 metres over moorland to a waiting air ambulance.

Mam Tor hillside

A joint Buxton Edale snatch squad was called to the hillside near Mam Tor late afternoon to assist the Ambulance Service with an injured person.

The casualty, a woman from Nottingham who was celebrating her 60th birthday, slipped whilst walking on the saturated, muddy footpath. She sustained a suspected fracture of the femur and was in great pain. Paramedics and team members treated her on scene. She was then carried by stretcher c. 400m to a waiting ambulance.

The casualty was taken to hospital for further treatment.
