Buxton team was called to assist a 20 year male from Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk currently a student at Manchester University. He had been leading a route called “Scoop Face Direct”. He came off and pendulumed on his runner protection, falling about 6 metres and hitting a small ledge. His belay failed again dropping him a further 3 metres to land at the base of the cliff. The snatch squad was called from the previous incident to assist in the evacuation of a 68 year old male from Nottingham. He had collapsed in Treak Cliff Cavern following a strenuous climb. He was treated on site by the ambulance service paramedics and the team doctor, then packaged and carried some 250 metres back down the twisty path and steps to the roadside. He refused hospital treatment.
A Buxton Edale snatch squad was called to assist the ambulance service in the evacuation of a 54 year old male who had been walking with his wife. They were returning to the village from the Cow Low area when he slipped on the steep hillside and sustained an injury to his left lower leg which immobilised him. He was treated on site by the ambulance service paramedics, and evacuated by stretcher for more than 500 metres through the village to the waiting air ambulance, which had repositioned itself in the fields below. Buxton and Edale teams were called to assist two 25 year old males from Doncaster who had set off for a circular walk later than they had planned and had become very cold, wet and disorientated when the clag came down and the weather closed in. The pair were recovered very wet and cold, but otherwise uninjured, by one of the search dogs towards the top of Grindsbrook gorge. A Buxton Edale snatch squad, assisted by members of Glossop team were called to evacuate a female who had slipped and sustained a fractured ankle whilst walking above Ladybower Reservoir. The casualty, who was also very wet and cold, was packaged and evacuated to the roadhead.
Buxton team was called to assist Edale team after reports that a climber had fallen from the top of the Embankment area sustaining head, neck and leg injuries. He was evacuated to hospital in the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance.
Buxton team called to evacuate a 43 year old female from Wildboarclough who slipped whilst walking with her partner in the Back Dane area near Allgreave woods and sustained a fracture of the lower left leg. The casualty was given pain relief and splinted on site by North West Ambulance Service paramedics and team members before being loaded on to a stretcher and evacuated 400 metres to the ambulance for onward transportation to Macclesfield hospital
Buxton Edale snatch squad called to evacuate a 39 year old male from Alderley Edge who fell whilst climbing ‘Green Acres’, an E1 5A route, and fell ca 10 metres injuring his left shoulder and left ankle. The casualty who had managed to get himself to the top of the crag was treated by team members and evacuated for over a mile on a spinal board & stretcher to a road ambulance for onward transfer to Chesterfield Royal Hospital.
Buxton Edale snatch squad assisted by some members of Derby team who were at Buxton base were called to evacuate a 36 year old female from Darley Dale, near Matlock, who whilst walking with her husband from Monsal Head had been hit from behind by her dog and been knocked to the ground. Her location was on a greasy, sloping limestone path above the River Wye. She was suffering pain to her back and neck and was treated on site by a mountain rescue doctor, paramedics and air ambulance paramedics. …
Buxton mountain rescue and Edale snatch squad called to evacuate a 72 year old Male from Silverdale Sheffield who suffered a medical collapse whilst ascending the steep climb up to Whinstone Lee Tor. He was unconscious for 3 to 4 minutes, and a member of the group who was a retired medical professional suspected he may have had cardiac problem. The casualty was accessed by the air ambulance and flown to the Northern General Hospital and released the same day.
