Kinder Scout, Southern Edge

The team was called at 17.40 for another early evening search for an overdue party lost on Kinder Scout.  Three teams, four search dogs and a police helicopter were called out when a party of three adults became disorientated in mist and darkness on a walk over Kinder.

Over Haddon

Buxton and Edale Snatch Squad called at 15.35 hours to Ditch Cliff, Over Haddon to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service staff extricate a walker suffering from a suspected fractured lower right leg.  The casualty, a 64 year old from Derby, was located on a steep and very muddy footpath and was treated by the EMAS crew before being carried by rescue team personnel to a waiting ambuance.

Kinder Scout

Buxton team along with Edale, Kinder and Glossop rescue teams and a number of search dogs were called to locate a missing male on Kinder Scout.  The solo male walker had set off from Edale but had become disorientated in thick mist and rain.  A Sea King helicopter joined the search as darkness fell but was unable to offer much assistance in the very poor weather.

The man was located in the middle of the plateau and escorted to safety.

Curbar Edge

Hope Valley “Snatch Squad” from Buxton and Edale rescue teams called to assist a fallen climber at Curbar Edge.  The male climber suffered a fracture “tib & fib” and was treated on site by a team doctor and first aiders before being carried to the top of the crag where the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was waiting.

Milldale

Buxton team, Derby team and 3 search dogs called to search overnight in Milldale and the surrounding area for a missing vulnerable female from Nottingham.  The search was suspended at 4.00 am Tuesday and re-started at 8.00 am Tuesday.  The casualty was located safe and well.

Druids Stone

Buxton Edale Snatch Squad called to evacuate a 47 year old male from Alvaston who had collapsed near Druids Stone on Rowland Cote Moor.  The casualty who was one of a party of four was located collapsed with exhaustion and potentially hypothermic.  The party had been undertaking a walk around the edge of Kinder in cold wet conditions. He was treated on site by team members and evacuated by stretcher for approx one kilometre to Edale Youth Hostel, where he was provided with food and drink. Stoney Ford

Buxton team members at base following an exercise were called to assist Kinder team in the evacuation of a 72 year old male from Shaw who had become unwell suffering with chest pains.  One vehicle with crew of 5 was deployed direct to scene, and further members along with Kinder team and an EMAS paramedic provided back up. In light of the serious nature of the condition, the duty Controller requested an air evacuation, which due to the poor weather conditions could only be achieved using RAF SAR helicopter.  The closest aircraft at RAF Leconfield was out of service and …

Southern Edges, Kinder Scout

Buxton and Edale teams with 3 search dogs called to search the Southern Edges when a 19 year old female from Nottingham became separated from the other 15 in her party.  The group from Nottingham University were on the Kinder Plateau to practice navigation.  A search of all the escape routes across both sides of the plateau was initiated and the missing female was located by a Buxton section on Broadlee Bank, cold and a little frightened by her experience.  The remaining 15 had actually split into 2 groups, 10 who …

Mam Nick

Buxton Edale Snatch Squad called to assist in the evacuation of  a 63 year old female from Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Out walking with her husband she had slipped on wet grass whilst descending the footpath between Mam Nick and Blue John Cavern. She had sustained an injury to her left ankle and was immobile.    She was treated on site by ambulance service paramedics and team members, packaged and evacuated by stretcher to the roadside and transferred to the waiting land ambulance to be taken to Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport for further treatment.

Windgather Rocks

Buxton team called to evacuate a 19 year old male from Manchester who fell ca 6 metres whilst leading Route 2 and landed on his feet sustaining an injury to the right ankle.  After treatment on site by team members and paramedics, the casualty was evacuated by stretcher to the roadhead and transported to Macclesfield hospital for further treatment.
