Incident report

Buxton Edale Snatch Squad called to assist in the evacuation of  a 63 year old female from Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Out walking with her husband she had slipped on wet grass whilst descending the footpath between Mam Nick and Blue John Cavern. She had sustained an injury to her left ankle and was immobile.    She was treated on site by ambulance service paramedics and team members, packaged and evacuated by stretcher to the roadside and transferred to the waiting land ambulance to be taken to Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport for further treatment.

May I take this opportunity to thank the members of the various Mountain Rescue Teams who came to my wife’s aid after she broke her leg whilst descending from the top of Mam Tor on Tuesday.

The care and consideration afforded to my wife and myself was absolutely first class. The rescue was carried out with professionalism, patience and humour, all of which helped to reassure my wife and kept calm one very worried husband.

We have now returned to our home in Hertfordshire where my wife is going to spend the next few weeks making sure that I do all the housework and cooking.

I know all the members of the rescue teams treated it as just another rescue but the confidence they gave us that we were in safe hands is certainly appreciated.

    Once again many thanks

    Alan Mills
