Jacob's Ladder, Kinder Scout

The team were already assembled at the event for Emergency Services Day in Buxton when a call-out for a joint Buxton/Edale snatch squad relating to a medical emergency was received. The incident involved a fourteen year old boy on the Pennine Way at Jacob’s Ladder.  The boy was part of a Duke of Edinburgh silver expedition from a school in Saffron Waldon, Essex.

Temple Fields, Buxton

Whilst team members were fundraising at the Emergency Services Day at Pavilion Gardens, Buxton, a call was received to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service with a short carry of a casualty.  A lady had been horse riding in Temple Fields, Buxton, and had been thrown from the horse.   A significant back injury was suspected and after E.M.A.S. paramedics had treated the Buxton lady the team gently carried the casualty to the waiting ambulance for her transfer to Stepping Hill Hospital.

Jagger’s Clough, Kinder Scout

A 39 year old lady from Leicester had collapsed whilst walking and was reported to be in a serious condition. Snatch squad team members already on the hill from a previous incident were diverted and additional resource was called when a new incident was reported in Jagger’s Clough, Kinder Scout.

Team members were quickly on scene in the narrow and steep sided clough which made for difficult casualty handling.  An assessment by a mountain rescue doctor highlighted the seriousness of the casualty’s condition and an RAF Seaking helicopter was called from RAF Valley on …

Hartshorn, Kinder Scout

A joint Buxton & Edale snatch squad was called to rendezvous at Edale following the report of an ankle injury just north of Hartshorn on the Kinder plateau. 

A 19 year old male, part of a Boy’s Brigade group from Kempston in Bedfordshire, was on expedition as part of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award scheme.   A simple stumble resulted in an open fracture of the lower leg; rather more serious than first reported. 

As team members were carrying the equipment towards the accident site the Yorkshire Air-ambulance was able to land near the casualty and quickly transfer him to Sheffield Northern General.
