Incident report
A 39 year old lady from Leicester had collapsed whilst walking and was reported to be in a serious condition. Snatch squad team members already on the hill from a previous incident were diverted and additional resource was called when a new incident was reported in Jagger’s Clough, Kinder Scout.
Team members were quickly on scene in the narrow and steep sided clough which made for difficult casualty handling. An assessment by a mountain rescue doctor highlighted the seriousness of the casualty’s condition and an RAF Seaking helicopter was called from RAF Valley on Anglesey.
Team members started to evacuate the casualty on a stretcher but descending the steep gully was slow work. When the aircraft arrived the team was very happy to find a level area from which the aircraft could winch the casualty safely on board at take her directly to Sheffield Northern General Hospital. To manually carry her out by stretcher would have taken another hour whereas the Seaking was at hospital within seven minutes. The team stood down at 20.40 hours.
