A54, Macclesfield Road, Buxton

Very late on a Friday evening, East Midlands Ambulance Service requested the assistance of mountain rescue in dealing with a serious road traffic incident on the A54 Macclesfield Road near to Turret Plantation.

A 20 year old motorcyclist from Llangollen in North Wales had landed some 40 feet below the road level in a steep ravine and stream bed.  An East Midlands ambulance crew was already treating the significant injuries that the motorcyclist had sustained but the team was required to set-up a lift system to bring the casualty back to the roadside.  The police closed the A class road to protect …

Bramcote Park, Nottingham

Search Dog, Megan, didn’t get her early morning walk so she was hopeful for a late evening walk instead.  Nearing midnight handler Dave Mason was called with two others from the Peak District to assist Derby MRT at Bramcote Park near Nottingham.   The police were significantly concerned for the safety of a 70 year old female suffering from Alzhiemers but she was located before the dogs arrived at the rendezvous.

Five Pits Trail, Mansfield

Search Dog Megan thought she was in for an early morning walk when handler Dave Mason was called at 05.30 am to assist Derby MRT with a search for a vulnerable 51 year old male.   Megan and three other Peak District search dogs were all called to search the Five Pits Trail near Mansfield but were stood down on arrival when police located the man safe and well.

Harpur Hill Quarry, Buxton

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service at the disused quarries at Harpur Hill, Buxton where youths had been swimming.

The group of youths had been splashing and diving into the water pools at the bottom of the quarry when one of them suffered a suspected fracture of the lower left leg.  Ambulance service personnel were first on scene to attend to the youth’s injuries but mountain rescue was called to haul the casualty up the steep sides of the old quarry. Jacob’s Ladder, Kinder Scout

The team were already assembled at the event for Emergency Services Day in Buxton when a call-out for a joint Buxton/Edale snatch squad relating to a medical emergency was received. The incident involved a fourteen year old boy on the Pennine Way at Jacob’s Ladder.  The boy was part of a Duke of Edinburgh silver expedition from a school in Saffron Waldon, Essex. 

Kinder MRT was already in the vicinity having just completed a training exercise when the alarm was raised and was able to divert several members to the scene.   The Yorkshire …
