Mid-afternoon; what was at first thought to be a simple, single team call out, escalated into one for three teams and three search dogs to locate lost walkers on the high moorland.

Breadsall, Derby

Buxton Search Dog Handler, Dave Mason, with his trusty friend, Megan, were called in the evening to assist Derby MRT in a search for a missing man around Breadsall village near Derby.

Twenty members of Derby team with two search dogs were to assist police to look for an 83 year old man who had last been seen some six hours earlier.  The man was located safe and well by team members within two hours of the initial call-out.  He had descended a steep wooded embankment near to his home and had been unable to …

Kinder Scout

Buxton team was called out and two other Peak District teams put on stand-by following a telephone call from a young couple lost in the thick low cloud and heavy rain in the middle of Kinder Scout.

The couple, from Bristol, had lost their way after the batteries in their GPS failed.  The poor weather and the prospect of darkness prompted an immediate reaction and members of Buxton team were called to rendezvous at Edale.   However the couple were able to attract the attention of other walkers on the moor who led them to safety down Grindsbrook.   The search was called off …

Lumsdale Woods, Matlock

Search Dog, Cap, with handler, Malcolm Bowyer, were called late afternoon to respond together with three other Peak District search dogs to assist Derby MRT look for a missing man at Matlock.

The search concentrated on woodland at Lumsdale, north west of Matlock, where it was thought a despondent male may have been hiding.  Despite a three hour search for the 39 year old man, who was thought to have a quantity of  tablets with him, nothing was found and the search was called off at 21.00 hours.
