Roaches, Staffordshire

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called by West Midlands Ambulance Service, nearly an hour after the event, to assist in the locating and recovery of a female walker who was thought to have sustained an ankle injury.  Only when the air-ambulance reported that it was unable to find a landing site were the team called to assist.

We were at the Roaches within 30 minutes by which time the aircraft had located the casualty and was about to depart.  The incident had been reported just after 2.00 pm and local Ambulance First Responders …

Loggerheads, Staffordshire.

Dave Mason and two other search dog handlers called by Staffordshire police to Loggerheads to assist in the search for a 79 year old male missing since mid-morning.  The gentleman is believed to be an Alzheimer sufferer and does not normally walk far from his home. 

The three search dogs were asked to clear a two mile area of woodland but nothing was found.  The incident is still ongoing with Staffordshire police but Peak District search dogs or teams have not been re-called to assist.

Dovedale

Search Dog, Megan, dragged her handler, Dave Mason, out for the second time today to look for missing man.

Staffordshire Police asked for assistance to search the dales and paths around Ilam Youth Hostel following the disappearance of a 40 year old male earlier in the afternoon.  The circumstances of the disappearance and a medical history gave rise to fears for the man’s safety.  Derby MRT and three search dogs combed the area all through the night but nothing was found and the search was suspended at 06.00 on Friday.

Leek. Hoax call – youths arrested.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Derby MRT, together with three search dogs were called out by Staffordshire Police in relation to a 999 call the ambulance service had received the previous evening.  The rendezvous point was near the Brittania Building Society headquarters in Leek, behind which is a steep and large wooded area.

The 999 call indicated that a youth had fallen from a mountain bike in dense woodland and was unable to move.  The call was thought to be suspicious and the police were alerted.   Whilst it was was strongly believed that the call had been a hoax, the police had to be certain so the …
