Hollins Cross

A joint Buxton Edale snatch squad was called to Woodseats Farm, Castleton, in the Hope Valley on Saturday afternoon. We were tasked to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service in recovering an injured mountain biker from the Hollins Cross area, which is part of the Great Ridge between Mam Tor and Back Tor.

On arrival we located a 43 year old male from Woking, Surrey. He was descending the hillside track from Hollins Cross when the accident occurred, sustaining chest injuries. Winnats Pass

Whilst fundraising in Buxton and Castleton on Bank Holiday Monday the Buxton Team was called to Winnats Pass, Castleton, to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

On arrival we located a 48 year old female from London who had slipped whilst walking across the steep grassy hillside above Speedwell Cavern, and sustained a suspected fracture of her right ankle. She was treated on-site by an ambulance service paramedic, including splinting and pain relief.  The team then placed her on a stretcher and carried her some 200 feet down the steep hillside to the road.

High Lane

Search Dog, Zak, along with handler, Nick Smith, and a navigator, were called to assist Kinder Mountain Rescue Team in a search for a vulnerable male.

They were stood down en-route when the missing person was located, deceased, by a member of Kinder MRT.

Upper Burbage Valley

A joint Buxton and Edale snatch squad was called to the Burbage valley near Ringinglow at lunch-time.
We had been tasked to assist the ambulance service with a 32 year old male from Winslow, Buckinghamshire. He was climbing on the Burbage North crags and had fallen approx 5 metres. He landed on his heels, but banged into the rock face, sustaining head injuries.
The casualty was treated on site by an air ambulance doctor and a local paramedic, then walked from the incident site to the roadside, transferred into a road ambulance and taken to hospital for checks and further treatment.

Bleaklow

Search dogs Megan and Zak, along with their handlers, Dave Mason and Nick Smith, were called to assist Glossop and Kinder Mountain Rescue Teams with a search for a vulnerable male.

The search was later widened to include Buxton, Edale, and Woodhead Mountain Rescue Teams, that is, 5 teams in all – plus five other search dogs.
