Rock Mill area, nr. Stony Middleton

On Friday afternoon, an Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue snatch squad was called to Stoney Middleton, following reports of a climbing accident.

The male climber was on a route near to “Minus Ten Wall” when a hold came loose and he fell. His protection seemed to fail and he landed on a small ledge, halfway down the rock wall.

Mountain Rescue personnel, including a paramedic, climbed up to his location on the ledge, and treated him for back and pelvis injuries.

Hollins Cross track

A Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue snatch squad was called to assist the ambulance service around lunch-time to recover an injured walker from a field east of Peters Barn, near to the Hollins Cross track in the Edale valley.

A 49 year old male walker from Belper, Derbyshire, had left the track and wandered into the adjoining field where he fell down a manhole. This caused a suspected lower leg fracture. Harboro Rocks

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to Harboro Rocks, near Brassington. Although this location is within the operational area of the Derby Team, they were already committed to a search in Staffordshire.

A 12 year old boy from New Mills was with a school group walking the High Peak Trail. When he went to explore the neighbouring Harboro Rocks, he slipped on loose rock and sustained a suspected lower leg fracture/dislocation.

He was treated on site by the crew of the air ambulance which had landed nearby and flown to the Royal Derby Hospital for further treatment. The team was stood down …

Froggart Edge

Buxton and Edale Muntain Rescue Teams were called to Froggatt Edge, near Calver, on Tuesday morning.

An 18 year old male climber was attempting to solo a route in the “Downhill Racer” area when he fell about 10 metres. Fortunately he was wearing a helmet. He was however treated on site for possible head, back, leg and arm injuries.

The young man was then evacuated by stretcher to the top of the crag by rescue team personnel, placed into the waiting Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance and flown to the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham for further treatment.

Bromley Hayes, Staffs.

A Buxton Search Dog team was called out to Kings Bromley, near Lichfield, to assist Derby MRT & Staffordshire SAR search for a mssing person.

The search was for a 20 year old male who had been reported missing since the weekend. The person was not located within the area searched.

Police are continuing with their enquiries.
