Busy day in blizzard conditions

Following the heavy snowfall overnight and throughout Wednesday morning, Buxton Mountain Rescue team members used two of their vehicles to assist the emergency services with a number of incidents throughout the day.

The first call was to help the ambulance service gain access to a multiple vehicle collision at Peak Forest. On returning to our Dove Holes base we came across 3 motorists stranded in snow drifts up to 5 feet deep between Peak Dale and Peak Forest.

Long Hill

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team together with fire, police, ambulance services and the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance were called to Long Hill, between Buxton and Whaley Bridge at Friday tea time.

An accident involving a motorcyclist had occurred resulting in the motorcyclist being catapulted through the air for some considerable distance into nearby fields.

He was treated by attending medical personnel, carried to the waiting helicopter, and flown to hospital for further treatment.

New Piece Wood, near Edensor

A Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue snatch squad was called to the Chatsworth estate during the afternoon to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service.

A 42 year old male from West Bridgeford, Nottinghamshire, was mountain biking in the New Piece Wood area, south west of Edensor Village, when an accident occurred. He was reported to have been thrown over the bike handlebars, suffering injuries to his head, neck and chest. He was unconscious.

The Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance landed nearby and Mountain Rescue personnel were on hand to assist. The injured man was flown to the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, …

Dronfield

Buxton Search Dogs called out to Dronfield, to assist Edale MRT & Derby MRT continue the previous day’s search for a missing person.

The person was not located within the areas searched.

Police are continuing with their enquiries.
