Monsal Trail, nr Hassop Station

On Saturday a joint Buxton Edale snatch squad was called to the Monsal Trail to assist the ambulance service.  The incident was near to Headstone Tunnel and the teams accessed the trail from Hassop Station.

A 53 year old lady from the West Midlands area was bike riding on the trail between Great Longstone and Monsal Head when she came off her bike and sustained abrasions and a suspected fracture  to her ankle.  She was treated on site by a community first responder and mountain rescue personnel, including pain relief, leg splinter. Leadmill, nr Hathersage

A joint Buxton and Edale snatch squad was called to Leadmill, near Hathersage on Wednesday afternoon.

A local woman, running alongside the River Derwent between Hathersage and Grindleford, had slipped, injuring her ankle. We understand she called for assistance and in addition to ourselves, an air ambulance, and an land ambulance were all en-route to this incident. The Edale team duty leader provided local knowledge which enabled the aircraft to access the casualty site. The land ambulance also managed to access the site via a local track.

Mountain Rescue resources were consequently no longer required, and the teams were stood down.

Duffield area

Search dog Zak, along with his handler, was called to assist Derby Mountain Rescue Team to search for a missing lady near Duffield.

As the Dog team were beginning their search, the elderly lady was located by a police patrol, and the search was stood down.

Roaches

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to the Roaches on Thursday following reports of two injured climbers. The Midlands Air Ambulance and West Midlands Ambulance Service crews were already on scene and treating the casualties.

The two climbers, both male, aged 15 years, from Buxton, had been climbing on the Roaches Lower Tier, a route known as Prow Cracks. They had completed the route and one of the lads was either abseiling or being lowered from the top when he slipped and fell about 20 feet, pulling the other climber off the belay. Burbage Rocks

A joint Buxton and Edale snatch squad was called to the climbing area of Burbage Rocks to assist with a crag-fast person.

A 16 year old female from London, part of a group participating in rock climbing and scrambling activity in the Ash Tree wall area, had slipped and was wedged in a narrow gully, 20 feet up from the base of the cliff. Rescue personnel were able to speak to the girl from above, and established that apart from cuts and grazes, she was not injured, although she was slightly struggling to breathe.
