Edale Youth Hostel

An hour after the conclusion of a previous call-out, Buxton Mountain Rescue were called upon at a very early hour, to assist the ambulance service to collect a seriously injured person in a rural location.

The casualty was reported as having fallen from a first floor window onto a hard surface surrounded by steep terrain. He sustained significant back and head injuries. The EMAS crew attended him on site, but required extra help to transfer him to the waiting ambulance. Kinder Scout

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called out as night fell to search Kinder moor for two walkers who were trapped by deep bog without lights or whistle.

Although the casualties, a married couple from Doncaster, had no apparent injuries, they were very cold and disorientated. The night was damp and misty at high level, with some wind. They had set off for a days walk from Edale, up Grindsbrook to Kinder Downfall.  Returning on a GPS bearing, the female became trapped in deep wet bog at 16.30 hrs. River Dane, nr Gradbach

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was requested by Staffordshire Police to assist with an incident near to Gradbach Youth Hostel late on Monday night.

A 17 year old female had fallen into the River Dane near Gradbach and sustained an injury to her lower leg. Initial reports indicated she couldn’t get out of the river, and was very cold and frightened. Whilst the team was en-route a further call from the police reported that together with paramedic crews, they had managed to recover the person from the river, and that our resources were no longer required.

The team was stood down.

Lords Seat, Rushop Edge

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to Mam Nick to assist the ambulance service with an injured paraglider, near to Lords Seat, on Rushop Edge.

A 59 year old male, from Sheffield, had landed heavily sustaining a suspected fracture to his left ankle.  He was treated on site by the ambulance service paramedics and team personnel.  The North West Air Ambulance also attended – however it couldn’t shut down on the terrain, and the land crew were able to manage the incident.

The casualty was splintered and given pain relief before being loaded onto a mountain rescue stretcher and carried some 500 …
