Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were interrupted for a second time during a First Aid training exercise to help search for a group of lost walkers in open country between South Head and Rushup Edge.

The group consisted of five sixteen year old girls from the Accrington area, engaged in a weeks outdoor activity. Contact via mobile phone enabled the team to identify a probable search area, and two team vehicles with personnel were deployed.

Having located the group, they were escorted to the road – and following some refreshment, transported by team vehicle back to their accommodation in Edale.

Fernilee, Goyt Valley

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were out on their regular training night when a call came for a potential search for a missing person in the Goyt Valley.

The team were quickly redeployed to the location of the incident. Whilst en-route, they were notified that the police had located the missing person, unharmed, in farm buildings near Fernilee.

The team was stood down.

Crowden Brook

A joint Buxton Edale snatch squad was called to search the southern edges of Kinder Scout this afternoon.

A family of three were reported as lost in low cloud in the area above Crowden Brook. The weather was damp having rained heavily in the morning and continuing with intermitttent showers thereafter.

Whilst the teams were en-route, the family managed to ascertain their location, and no longer required assistance. Rescue personnel were stood down.

Monsal Trail

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called out around lunch-time to assist the East Midlands Ambulance Service with an injured walker.

The casualty, a 69 year old lady from Keithley, was walking with her husband in Chee Dale when she slipped on the muddy path and fractured her ankle. Heavy rain in the morning had made ground conditions very wet. She was treated on site by ambulance personnel, then carried on a stretcher by the rescue team to a waiting land ambulance.

The ambulance transported the woman to Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, for further treatment.
