Castle Naze

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called at dusk to Castle Naze Rocks, between Dove Holes and Combs, following reports of a fallen climber. Further information indicated that there were in fact, two injured climbers, both suspended on a ledge some six metres above the ground.

The climbers were on a route called “Ziga Zaga”. It appears that the accident occurred when the lead climber reached the top of the route and fell off, landing on his belay partner.

Upper Booth, Edale

A joint Buxton and Edale Team responded to a call out at Edale, late Saturday afternoon, just as it was getting dark.

The casualty, a 47 year old male hill walker from West Bridgeford, Nottingham, was returning to Edale on the Pennine Way between Upper Booth and Edale when he slipped on the muddy surface and sustained a suspected fracture to his lower leg/ankle. He was treated on site by team personnel, given pain relief and his injured leg was splinted. He was then placed onto a mountain rescue stretcher and carried to Edale village.

Ullswater, Lake District

Whilst attending a national search dog training course in the Lake District, dog support was requested by Patterdale MRT to search mountain and woodland areas surrounding Ullswater for a despondent male.

The search was stood down when police divers recovered a body matching the description of the missing person from the lake.

Burbage valley

Search dog Megan and handler called to assist Edale MRT and a Sea King helicopter from RAF Leconfield to search the Burbage Valley near Higgar Tor.

The search was organised following the discovery of discarded clothing, sleeping items, and a pet dog running free in the location.

The search was stood down when all local areas had been covered.

Abney Moor

A joint call for Buxton and Edale Teams to Duper Lane, Abney on Thursday afternoon.

A lady was walking on Abney Moor with a group and stumbled, sustaining a suspected broken ankle. She was treated on site by rescue team members, who gave pain relief and splinted her injured leg. After placing her into a vacuum mattress which provided support and warmth, she was evacuated by rescuers on a mountain rescue stretcher to Abney village, where the land ambulance was waiting.

The casualty was then transferred to hospital for further treatment.
