Search Dog, Megan, and her handler, were called to assist the mutliple agencies deployed in searching for a missing person.

The dog unit reported to Kinder Mountain Rescue team’s base in Hayfield. As they were being briefed, a positive find was reported.

New Mills

In the dark, early hours, Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to assist our Kinder Team colleagues with a search in the New Mills area.

A 53 year old local resident had been reported missing from home. The immediate neighbourhood was searched without success, so the search was extended to include the Sett Valley Trail, Hayfield, Lantern Pike, and the plateau and lower slopes of Kinder Scout. Due to the extensive area covered by search teams, additional resources were called in. A515 Axe Edge

Buxton Team was requested to assist an elderly farmer near to Axe Edge who became snow bound when her farmhouse was smothered in 8 ft snow drifts.

One of the teams 4×4 vehicles was deployed with 2 team members. Snow drifts of more than 8 feet virtually covered the farmhouse, and more importantly the external boiler flue, preventing it being used. Team personnel cleared the boiler flue and restored the heating. A515 Buxton Ashbourne Road

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team along with Edale and Derby Teams responded to a call by police to assist locating and recovering stranded motorists in heavy snow.

Vehicles were trapped for some time on the A515 Buxton – Ashbourne road. The checks were conducted in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The teams approached the area from 3 different locations, checking vehicles, drivers and occupants enroute. Most of the vehicles were HGVs, and their drivers opted to stay with them.

Peter’s Stone, Cressbrook Dale

Buxton Mountain Rescue was called to Cressbrook Dale, near Litton, to assist the ambulance services with an injured walker.

The casualty, a 74 year old man from Northenden, Manchester, had fallen from the height of Peter’s Stone, a local landmark, and rolled 15 metres onto a rough scree slope above the valley floor. He sustained head injuries along with body lacerations and grazes.
