Edale Cross, Kinder Scout

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to rendezvous at Edale following the report of a casualty with possible head injuries at the top of Jacob’s Ladder near to Edale Cross.   A 23 year old female mountain biker had been thrown over the handlebars causing her to loose consciousness for a few minutes.  Aware of the potential seriousness of the injury a party of five team members were ascending Jacobs Ladder within 30 minutes of the call and an RAF Seaking helicopter was alerted.

Bleaklow

Search Dog, Megan, and her handler, along with 5 other dog teams, called to assist Glossop and Kinder MRTs in a search for a missing person.

The person, a vulnerable man, was found around 8pm by one of the search dogs. He was suffering from hypothermia and evacuated back to Snake Summit.

A waiting land ambulance transported him onwards for further treament.

White Nancy, Bollington

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called by Cheshire Police to assist at an incident near to the well known White Nancy landmark at Kerridge above Bollington.

An adult female fell runner had tripped and fallen striking her head and injuring her shoulder. Initial treatment was by ambulance paramedics but owing to potential seriousness of the injuries North West Ambulance called for an air-ambulance.  The helicopter attended and landed close to the scene.  However, because of the deteriorating weather and poor visibility, the helicopter was unable to take the casualty.  Buxton MRT was called and responded with eleven members and one Kinder MRT …

The Quarry, Burbage Rocks South

Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams’ joint Snatch Squad called following a climbing accident in the quarry area of Burbage Rocks South.  A young male had fallen approximately 5 metres landing on a rocky ledge some 3 metres above ground level.  The casualty was treated by air-ambulance paramedics and Edale MRT members for back and leg injuries before he was lowered to ground level using a simple rope system and lots of hands.  The man was then flown to hospital for further assessment.

Kinder Scout

Three mountain rescue teams and several search dogs were alerted when a walker was reported overdue following a late afternoon wander on to Kinder Scout. Mobile phone contact with the walker confirmed that he was lost in the middle of a boggy Kinder Scout and probably in area of Buxton team’s responsibility.
