Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called by North West Ambulance Service following the report of an elderly gentleman from Manchester having fallen some 50 feet. Kinder Scout, Southern Edge

A major search of Kinder Scout was launched in the early hours of Thursday following the report of a woman benighted on the moor.  Four mountain rescue teams from Buxton, Kinder (Hayfield), Edale and Glossop were called out together with five search and rescue dogs.   Heavy rain and a strong northwest wind complicated the incident.

Although the rescue teams had mobile-phone contact with the 38 year old woman from Doncaster she was unable to give any coherent information as to her probable location.  Following the discovery of her car in Edale the search concentrated on Kinder Scout with the four …

Castleton, Treak Cliff path from Blue John Mine

Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams’ Snatch Squad called-out aroud lunch-time following the report of a man having broken a leg whilst walking on the path leading from Blue John Cavern towards Treak Cliff.

The 5o year old man and his wife were on holiday from their home in Gloucestershire when a simple fall from a stile resulted in a painful fracture of the lower leg.

Casualty treatment on scene was completed by Edale MRT paramedics before the man was carried on a rescue stretcher to an ambulance waiting at Blue John Mine.

Hen Cloud, Roaches

Buxton team was asked to assist the West Midlands Ambulance Service with a fallen climber at the Roaches.

Knowing the potential severity of any climbing accident on Hen Cloud, the team responded in numbers, and an RAF Sea King was also requested to attend.

 

The casualty, a 36 year old male climber, had fallen up to 30 feet and landed on his feet. He sustained chest, pelvic and back injuries and was treated on site by the ambulance service and trauma doctor on the aircraft. Given the location of the casualty, lifting and carrying …
