High Tor, Matlock

A callout for Derby Mountain Rescue Team which was fundraising in Dovedale at the time and thus had some distance to travel.  To back-up Derby team the incident was also attended by a Buxton member who lives close to the incident site and a number of Edale members who were fundraising in Bakewell.

A 22 year old man had fallen 25-30m and suffered spinal, chest and pelvic injuries as well as breaking both legs.  Helimed 54, an EMAS ambulance crew and a BASICS doctor also attended.  The casualty also had the good fortune to be found …

Castle Naze, Combs Moor

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called in support of East Midlands Ambulance Service dealing with a fallen rock climber. 

A 46 year old male lead climber from Wilmslow had fallen whilst on the final part of the route.  Falling over twenty feet significant injuries were suspected and the Derbyshire, Leicester and Rutland Air-ambulance was known to be en-route.  The road was temporarily closed to permit access for the emergency vehicles as twelve team members made their way to the incident site. Mam Tor

A joint team call-out for the Buxton and Edale Snatch Squad following reports of an injured paraglider on Mam Tor, near Castleton.

A 49 year old man suffered suspected neck and facial injuries whilst landing near to the summit of the popular location. Local team members were rapidly on scene and provided medical care greatly assisted by a member of the R.A.F. and an N.W.A.S. technician who were nearby at the time.  Due to the nature of the injuries and the location, a Search and Rescue helicopter was …

Grin Low Woods, Buxton

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called by East Midlands Ambulance Service following the report of a casualty having sustained a knee injury.

A 28 year old local lady was walking her dog in the woods when she slipped and fell.  Immediate medical treatment was carried out by team members assisted by an off-duty paramedic who happened to also be in the woods.  The lady was then gently placed onto a rescue stretcher for the short evacuation to Grin Low car-park where an ambulance was waiting for the onwards trip to a Stockport hospital.

Jacob’s Ladder

Two people assisted down Jacob’s Ladder after becoming lost whilst following a guidebook walk.  The two had walked from Edale along the southern Kinder edge path arriving at Edale Cross.  They then walked off route on to Brown Knoll and became disorientated.  Following telephone advice they walked down Jacob’s Ladder where they met team members who transported them back to Edale.

Team advice – take a map, compass and torch every time!
