A Christmas Cracker
It was a Christmas Cracker but not everyone got a joke!
Staffordshire Athletic Club has supported the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team for many years with a share of the proceeds from its Annual Christmas Cracker 8 K fell race over the Roaches starting from Tittesworth Reservoir. In return, team members provide first aid cover and assist marshalling over the more exposed parts of the route.
It’s a great, fun affair with most competitors in seasonal fancy dress. However, this year the team had to earn its keep when a female competitor became distressed with breathing difficulties near to Roaches Gate requiring medical help and transfer to hospital. A second incident was developing when an elderly gentleman was reported overdue from a walk around the reservoir. However, as the team was assembling to commence a search around the water’s edge the missing man was located safe and sound.
Despite these two mishaps it was a great day in very blustery conditions. The team sends its annual “Merry Christmas” to Staffordshire Athletic Club and all who supported the event.
