Mountain Rescue meets Women’s Institute

Team members Carney and Fleur visited Buxton Women’s Institute earlier today to give a presentation talk to WI members about the valuable work of the mountain rescue volunteers, in and around Buxton.

It was also a chance for the Team to say thank you to Buxton WI for a generous donation they gave the team last year when the WI members decided not to send each other Christmas cards but instead collected the money they would have spent on cards, and donated it the team for our drone fund. This very generous donation, in conjunction …

Saturday 16 November 2019

A busy day for many members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, with the team being involved in three events today.

Team members attended both Leek and Castleton, raising funds to enable us to provide the voluntary service that we, (and other similar mountain and lowland teams provide) to help those who need our specialist skills.

We’d like to thank everybody who made a donation, both at Leek and at Castleton on the day. All of your donations go directly to maintaining the team’s operational status. Without your support and help, we …

The Red Jacket – Delvin’s story

Continuing our catch up with trainees who have recently been awarded their “Red Jacket”, we caught up with Delvin, for his side of the story…….

My wife and I moved to Buxton to enjoy access to the Peak
District with all of the outdoor activities it presents. This gave me an opportunity
to apply to Buxton Mountain Rescue Team, something which has always been at the
back of my mind. Although I have never had to call on the services of a
mountain rescue team it has always been reassuring to know they are there just
in case the need …

Waitrose & partners supporting Buxton Mountain Rescue Team

The team recently received a substantial donation from Waitrose & Partners to support the valuable work carried out by the rescue team. Without this support from the community and businesses in the area, the team could not continue to provide the emergency response that we currently do; so, a huge thank you to everyone who helped out to nominate the team, and of course to Waitrose, for the donation.

Waitrose and Partners ‘Community Matters’ is a way of giving something back to good causes in their local area. Each month …

The “Red” Jacket – Neil’s story…………

In the second of our interviews with people who have joined the team and been awarded their “Red Jacket”, on completion of months of training, we catch up with Neil Waterhouse on how he came to join Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

As said previously, becoming a member of a voluntary mountain rescue team is something that cannot be taken lightly; it is a huge personal commitment, and you will need the support and understanding of family, friends and people around you.

It is however an extremely rewarding and satisfying “thing” …

The Red Jacket………

Becoming a member of a voluntary
mountain rescue team is something that cannot be taken lightly; it is a huge personal
commitment, and you will need the support and understanding of family, friends
and people around you.

It is however and extremely
rewarding and satisfying “thing” to do. There can be no greater satisfaction
over knowing that today, or indeed any point since joining the team, that you
and your fellow team members will turn out, in all kinds of weather, at any
time of the day to help someone who has slipped, tripped, fallen, suffered an
injury or medical episode; or …

Fell’n’Back 2019

A thank you to our local breweries who helped us put on the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team Fell’n’Back 2019 race.

Without the support of the these local breweries, who generously supplied the prizes for the runners, we couldn’t put this event on and make it the success it is.

All the funds raised from “our” fell race go to support the annual running costs, of £45,000 of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

The team, which is a registered charity and made up entirely of volunteers are on call 24/7/365 …

Fell’n’Back 2019 – the results are in!

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped the rescue team organise the Fell’n’Back race, and of course thank you to the hardy fell runners who took part.

On the day, the conditions were somewhat challenging and without the support of everybody leading up to the race, and on the race day, it couldn’t have been the success it was.

We do apologise to residents for the parking issues around the start point. We are looking at alternative arrangements for next year. We recognise …

Joint training weekend with South Snowdonia Search and Rescue Team

A number of team members have been in North Wales for an action packed weekend of training . Shortly after arriving on the Friday evening, team members, many of who are new trainees, were quickly faced with a search and rescue exercise in a steep gorge. The scenario involved a precarious rescue of a casualty who was located on the water’s edge, in a steep gorge, with a severe leg injury.  Practicing their casualty care skills, stretcher lifting and rope works skills, saw the team hauling the casualty on a stretcher up a steep wooded embankment through to the open …
