Kinder Low

Kinder MRT was unavailable for call-out at the time of this incident so, as neighbours, Buxton MRT was asked to respond following calls for help from couple lost on Kinder Scout above Hayfield.

A couple from Nottingham had been for a day’s walk up Williams Clough and on to Kinder Downfall.  Their descent route took them to Kinder Low but they were soon overtaken by darkness and bad weather.  A mobile phone call to the police raised the alarm but the couple had no map or compass and were unable to give their location.

999 Day success

The 13th annual Emergency Services Day took place at Pavilion Gardens in Buxton on Sunday 13th June and attracted thousands of visitors.  All aspects of the 999 services were represented mixing both the professionals and volunteers.

Buxton Rescue Team was there in strength with both static and active displays.  As part of the recent recruitment campaign team members were keen to explain to the role of mountain rescue in the community and the commitment and skills needed to become an operational member.   The …

Hoax callers say, “Sorry, it was stupid.”

On 13th August 2009 three search & rescue dogs, Derby Mountain Rescue Team and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were all called to woodland on the outskirts of Leek in Staffordshire.  The police had received a 999 call stating that two boys had fallen into a large hole and could not escape. 

The police started searching but were unable to locate the boys or the hole and so mountain rescue was called in to widen the search.   The call was being taken as a serious incident and a large area of land and woodland painstakingly searched.

Solomans Temple

Following a request from East Midlands Ambulance, Buxton team were requested to attend Solomon’s Temple to evacuate a 46 year old male who had been found very cold and unconscious near the monument. The team were deployed to the temple but stood down when it was apparent that a passing fell runner had managed to shake the man awake and drag him off the hill to a waiting ambulance.
