Chapel House Farm, Macclesfield Forest

The team was called out by a family group who were enjoying a walk around Macclesfield Forest. A young person in the group tripped and fell, and unfortunately was knocked unconscious.

All vehicles were dispatched to Forest Chapel and team members first to arrive headed directly to the casualty site, which was 300 metres from Charity Lane.  At the same time, the North West Air Ambulance arrived on scene and Peak District National Park Volunteer Rangers also arrived on foot.

The casualty had now regained consciousness and was assessed by an air ambulance paramedic, before being placed on a stretcher and evacuated to the helicopter….

Back Tor, Castleton

A couple were out walking this afternoon, near to Back Tor on the Great Ridge when the male slipped and sustained a upper leg injury.

Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were called as part of the midweek Joint Snatch arrangements. Members from both teams quickly responded making their way to the Hollowford Centre, and were then transferred by mountain rescue vehicles before a quick walk up to the casualty site.

Mam Farm, Castleton

Christmas morning was interrupted for both Edale Mountain Rescue and Buxton teams when a call for help was received.

A lady from Warrington was enjoying a Christmas morning walk when she slipped and sustained a lower leg injury. After initial treatment, the lady was carried on a team stretcher to an awaiting East Midlands Ambulance Service and onward to hospital.

Team members headed home just in time for their Christmas lunch.  Fortunately for the team members, they were not called out again on the 25th.

Tegg’s Nose

The team was called to assist the North West Ambulance Service with a female walker.
 
The unfortunate lady had suffered a suspected fractured ankle and after an initial assessment from ambulance personnel, she was carried to the ambulance and then transferred to hospital.

Kinder Search Plan

Early on Sunday morning, we were called into action as part of the Kinder Search Plan, a collaborative operation featuring Mountain Rescue Teams from Glossop, Edale, Kinder and of course Buxton.  Four search dogs and handlers were also called out.

Two walkers had been expected back from a walk along the Southern Edges before dark but at 01:30 they were reported missing.  The weather had been atrocious during the day with the clear skies overnight leading to freezing temperatures so there were concerns for their welfare.

Cistern’s Clough, A53

Near Brandside, Axe Edge two people became stranded on sheet ice after leaving the A53. Team members wearing microspikes walked the couple to Mobiles one and four before they were transferred to the team’s Staden Lane Base at Buxton Fire Station. The couple and their dogs were then taken in Mobile 2 to stay with relatives in the area.

As a result of being unable to travel further safely due to the ice, the lady was left without her prescribed medication. The team called into Clowes Chemist on Cavendish Parade in Buxton, who helped and issued an emergency prescription.

Jacob’s Ladder, Kinder

We were called to assist a female walker who had sustained a suspected fractured arm whilst walking in the Jacob’s Ladder area.

As team members responded, the casualty managed to self rescue with the assistance of her family. A team member met with the casualty to confirm that she was ok to proceed to hospital with family.

Townhead Bridge

 

A joint Known Location Incident with Edale Mountain Rescue Team.

We were called to assist Edale MRT who were responding to a request from East Midlands Ambulance Service to a mountain biker who was reported to have collapsed near to Win Hill.

It became clear this was a serious incident, and that the casualty was receiving CPR from fellow riders. team members from Edale MRT, Buxton MRT and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance all responded rapidly. However, despite the prolonged efforts of all those on scene, the rider could not be resuscitated.

Kinder Search

A couple who had been out for a day’s walk on Kinder Scout reported themselves to the Police as lost as the light faded at the end of the day.  Attempts to locate them using their mobile phone were unsuccessful so the team was called out as part of the well rehearsed Kinder Search Plan.

The couple were located via flashes from their lights below the western edge path in the area of Broad Clough. A Kinder MRT dog handler was first to them, and undertook an initial assessment. The pair were then escorted to safety by Buxton MRT and reunited …

Miller’s Dale

We were called, along with colleagues from Edale Mountain Rescue team to assist a 16 year old female with a severe asthma attack inside the Headstone Tunnel on the Monsal Trail.

The casualty was looked after by team members and an East Midlands Ambulance Service Paramedic and kept warm in Mobile 2 while waiting for the EMAS ambulance to arrive on scene.

Asthma can be an extremely serious problem if not treated correctly so we were pleased to have helped the casualty and her party this afternoon.
