Just before 3pm on the 23rd March , Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were called out to a report of an incident on Grindslow Knoll. Members from both mountain rescue teams, and response vehicles, made their way to RV at the Edale railway station.

Team members then set off up Grindslow Knoll, loaded with equipment, to locate the casualty. On locating the casualty, team members were told that the casualty had been walking on Kinder Scout and slipped, injuring their ankle. The team was contacted about a dog walker who had become unsure of their location as daylight turned into darkness.

The walker was located using their mobile phone signal and was quickly found and brought back to a safe location.

Even at this time of year, it can get dark quickly in the evenings.

At 11.27 am both Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams were contacted by Derbyshire Constabulary after a call for help from two walkers in the Grindsbrook area. Team members were alerted and response vehicles headed to RV at the Edale railway station.

Team members were then dispatched to head up Grindsbrook Clough to meet the informant, who guided team members to the casualty, who was sitting by the stream under Halfway rocks.

The lady was from the USA and was enjoying a walk in the spring-like weather above Edale before heading home later in the week. Unfortunately whilst crossing …

The team was called to assist Edale Mountain Rescue Team with a paraglider who had landed awkwardly between Mam Nick and Lords Seat,  on Rushup Edge. The paraglider had impacted the ground shortly after take off, sustaining a dislocated shoulder. An Edale MR doctor gave the pilot strong pain relief and managed to relocate the dislocated shoulder. This made for a much more comfortable carry off on the stretcher.

The casualty was then transferred to the North West Air Ambulance for onward transport to the Northern General hospital in Sheffield for ongoing care.

The team was called out to a 20 year old female who was bouldering with friends when she fell approximately 10 metres. She was complaining of shoulder pain, and the EMAS paramedics were on scene providing care and treatment as the rescue team arrived.

Following treatement and imobilisation of the injury, on site, the casualty was placed onto a scoop stretcher, and then onto a mountain rescue stretcher. The casualty was then carried up a steep bank, by team members using a safety back-up rope to the waiting Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance who had managed to “park” nearby in …

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were called along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service, with the transportation of a male casualty who had suffered a medical collapse.

The casualty was treated on site before being placed in a casualty bag and vacuum mattress, before being placed on a mountain rescue stretcher. The stretcher was then sledged down the grassy slope, using a back rope to control the descent and then carried the final few hundred yards to the Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance for onward transport to hospital.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team were called out late afternoon along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team, to rescue a young male with an upper leg injury from the Cheedale area of Millers Dale, just east of Buxton.

The casualty was located in a difficult part of the dale, where access required team members to wade across the river.

The Team was called along with Edale Mountain Rescue Team to assist a lady who had slipped crossing the stream whilst walking down Grindsbrook clough. She thought she might have broken her ankle and was unable to continue as she could not weight bear on her leg.

Her partner rightly  called for Mountain Rescue and both Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and Edale Mountain Rescue Team responded.

The casualty was assessed, and offered pain relief, after which her leg was splinted and imobilised  before the lady was carefully placed on a stretcher for the carry down to Edale. From there, the lady was …

Buxton Team Search Dog Griff and handler were called to assist colleagues in Edale Mountain Rescue Team and Derby Mountain Rescue Team with an on-going search for a missing person in the Froggatt area. Buxton Team Search Dog Griff and handler searched the identified area for four hours before the team, who had been placed on standby, were eventually stood down.

The missing person was found safe and well outside the search area.

Well done Griff, who clearly likes being in the spotlight.

The second call out of the day  for the Rescue Team was to assist in the search for two walkers who had been benighted after a walk from Edale to Kinder Downfall. The walkers raised the alarm after the walk had taken a little longer than planned, and realising they had left their head torches in the car after repacking their rucksacks earlier in the day.

One of the Peak District Mountain Rescue Organisation controllers was able to talk with the walkers and it was thought they were on the southern edges of Kinder Scout, somewhere between the top of Crowden …
