Edale End, Edale Valley

A call-out for the joint Edale and Buxton Snatch Squad following the report of a gentleman having sustained an ankle injury whilst descending the steep hillside above Edale End.

The casualty was treated by MR first-aiders before being carried by stretcher down to Upper Fulwood Farm for onward ambulance transport to a Sheffield hospital.

Cave Dale, Castleton

Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams’ Joint Snatch Squad was called out following a report from East Midlands Ambulance Service of casualty in Cave Dale, Castleton.   A mature lady from Huddersfield was on a day trip to the Peak celebrating her birthday when a simple slip resulted in a suspected fracture of the ankle.   The limestone Cave Dale track is notoriously slippery when wet and following heavy overnight rain the path had become a stream-bed.

Valkerie,The Roaches

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to attend at The Roaches, Staffordshire where a climber had become stranded on the rock face of a VS 4b grade classic route called Valkerie.  The male climber, from Wilmslow, had been belaying his lead climber from a ledge when a piece of hardware detached itself from the crack.   Sliding down the rope, the hex nut struck the casualty causing a hand injury.  Strong winds made communication from one climber to the other difficult and as darkness fell the decision was made to call for help.

Stanage Edge (plantation area)

Buxton and Edale rescue teams’ Joint Snatch Squad called to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service at Stanage where a man had fallen three to four metres from a boulder.  A possible ankle fracture was treated by ambulance paramedics before the casualty was carried by stretcher to the road for transfer to a Chesterfield hospital.       Photo:  Edale and Buxton team members stretchering the casualty to a waiting ambulance.

Stanage Edge

Buxton team members called as part of the Joint Edale/Buxton Teams’ Snatch Squad to attend Stanage Edge following a report of a man having been injured whilst bouldering.

The man had suffered a suspected femur and pelvic injuries. He was treated on-site by team members and ambulance personnel, and then winched from a difficult location into a SeaKing helicopter.

The aircraft transported him to hospital.

Monsal Dale

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to rendezvous at White Lodge car-park on the A6 following a report of a woman suffering an ankle injury.  The casualty’s location was in the most remote part of Monsal Dale midway between the A6 and Monsal Head.   Treatment on site was given by team first-aiders before she was carried on a stretcher along the muddy path back to the roadhead.  Owing to the unavailability of an ambulance, the lady was taken to hospital by her family where an x-ray confirmed a fracture.

The Roaches, Staffordshire.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called by Staffordshire police following the sighting of red distress flares being fired from the Roaches. There had been three independent sightings of the flares and their significance was emphasised with the report of three climbers being unaccounted for at their nearby bunk-house.

However, the first police officer on site found that the flares had been fired deliberately as part of a film recording.   Mountain rescue, together with the ambulance service and a police helicopter were all stood down.   The film crew were suitably advised by the police about the foolishness of not warning the …

Buxton. Grinlow, Ladmanlow, Goyts Head and Goyt Valley (2 days)

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called in the late afternoon of Sunday to assist Derbyshire Police in a search for a 48 year old man reported missing from his home in Burbage, Buxton.   The police had reason to be concerned about the man’s welfare and the search was quickly escalated to involve five Peak District Mountain Rescue Teams and five M.R. search dogs.

The missing man was thought to be wearing a three-quarter length dark coat, pale blue shirt and brown jeans.  He has short dark hair and wears glasses, he may also be carrying a walking pole.  He is …

Roach End, Back Forest, Staffordshire

Buxton MRT called to assist West Midlands Ambulance Service following the report of a casualty suffering fits on the ridge between Roach End and Back Forest.  

Midlands Air-ambulance was already in attendance when the first of fifteen team members arrived at the casualty site.  Following treatment, the casualty was assisted a short distance to the aircraft for a flight to a Stoke hospital.
