Incident report

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called in the late afternoon of Sunday to assist Derbyshire Police in a search for a 48 year old man reported missing from his home in Burbage, Buxton.   The police had reason to be concerned about the man’s welfare and the search was quickly escalated to involve five Peak District Mountain Rescue Teams and five M.R. search dogs.

The missing man was thought to be wearing a three-quarter length dark coat, pale blue shirt and brown jeans.  He has short dark hair and wears glasses, he may also be carrying a walking pole.  He is a serving police officer with Derbyshire Constabulary.

Over a hundred mountain rescue team members from Buxton, Edale, Kinder and Derby teams continued the search late into Sunday night.  Early Monday morning the search was resumed with eighty team members and search dogs working on priority areas around the Goyt Valley, Grinlow Woods, Burbage Edge and Terret Woods.  Regrettably, no indication of the man’s whereabouts was found and the rescue teams stood down about 8.00pm.

The police search and enquires are ongoing and anyone who sees anyone matching the description above or who may have information as to his whereabouts should call – Derbyshire Police on 101.
