Chee Dale animal recovery

Eight members of the team attended the crags above the Monsal Trail in Cheedale following  a request from a local farmer to recover a sheep.

A rope rescue system was set up and a team member was lowered to the animal which was unfortunately found to be dead.   The carcass was recovered.

Chrome Hill, Dowel Dale

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to assist the Midlands Air-ambulance following the report of a woman having slipped and injured her lower leg on Chrome Hill.

The lady, from Thornton, Cleveleys, was taking part in a training course when she slipped on the wet ground whilst descending the steep south-east side of Chrome Hill.  Treatment on site was by an East Midlands Paramedic assisted by team members who then carried her to the waiting air-craft.  However, the bad weather deteriorated even further during the stretcher evacuation preventing the …

A small number of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team members called, together with the Water Safety Section of Kinder M.R.T, to assist Derbyshire Police with the recovery of a deceased adult male from the edge of Fernilee Reservoir.

Kinder Scout

Kinder and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams called out, together with Search & Rescue Dog Association handlers, when a party of school children was reported over due.

Seven pupils from a Manchester school were participating in training for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme Silver Award when they became disorientated on Kinder plateau.   The party had reported that they were in Crowden Brook but two hours after darkness they had still not appeared at their camp-site in Edale.

Bamford Edge

Seven members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team went to the assistance of colleagues in Edale Mountain Rescue Team responding to a call-out at Bamford Edge.  A male climber had suffered a serious medical collapse whilst on the crag and had been lowered to the ground by his friends.  

A mountain rescue Doctor and paramedics attended the casualty before he was carried on a stretcher to the road where an ambulance was waiting to transfer him to a Sheffield hospital.    Air-ambulance  had made several valiant attempts to land near …

Grindsbrook, Edale

A joint call-out for the Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams’ Snatch Squad following the report of an accident in Grindsbrook, a main access path on to Kinder from Edale village.

A 70 year old male had slipped and sustained head injuries in an area known as “Half Way Rocks”.  Following examination by Edale team members and the crew of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, he was walked a short distance to the aircraft and flown to Sheffield Hospital for further examination and treatment.

Capesthorne Hall, Macclesfield.

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called to the grounds of Capesthorne Hall, Siddington, near Macclesfield following the report of a lady having suffered a leg injury.  The 55 year old lady was taking part in The East Cheshire Hospice “Star Light Walk” raising money for the local charity.   The walk passes through the Capesthorne Estate which is hardly mountainous but it’s a dark an lonely place on a wet night.  Ground conditions were very wet following recent rain and a simple slip resulted in a …

Roych Clough, Rushop Edge

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to assist the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service and East Midlands Ambulance Service following the report of a 4×4 vehicle having overturned on the track.

Three of the four passengers received minor injuries and were evacuated back to the road in the team’s Land Rover whilst the most serious casualty, with suspected back-injuries, was air-lifted to hospital for further investigation.

Kinder Scout Plateau

Just as darkness was falling an adult couple with two children made a 999 call to police to report themselves lost on Kinder.  The Duty Incident Controller called the party back but lost mobile phone connection before any useful clues as to the family’s whereabouts could be gained.  Repeated calls failed to connect so a major search of Kinder Scout was instigated.

Kinder and Glossop MRTs were tasked to cover the North and West of the moor whilst Buxton and Edale Teams started their familiar search pattern of the South and East of the plateau.   Two mountain rescue search dogs …

The Roaches, Staffordshire

A male climber was leading on Scarlet Wall, an eleven metre hard severe, and had nearly reached the top when he fell.  Climbing protection probably slowed his rate of descent but failed to stop him impacting the ground sustaining shoulder and possible internal injuries.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was first to attend the incident with a paramedic and the West Midlands Air-ambulance.  Mountain Rescue was requested a short while after and Buxton Team responded with fifteen members.   Casualty treatment was by West Midlands paramedics who started the …
