Crowden Brook

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called in the early evening after a group of walkers had contacted Derbyshire Police asking for directions to get off Kinder Scout.

The walkers’ exact position was located by using smart phone technology which placed them at the top of Crowden Brook.  The party of three men, all from The New Forest area, had very limited lighting with them so a small section of the rescue team climbed Crowden Brook to meet the walkers and assist them off the hillside.

Kinder Scout

The “Kinder Scout Search Plan” was activated on Thursday afternoon following reports from two female walkers that they were lost in thick mist on the high moorland plateau.

Whilst they thought they were on one of the edge paths, the low cloud prevented them identifying any discernible landmarks with which they could pinpoint their position.

The Kinder Search Plan involves all the four mountain rescue teams which surround Kinder Scout.  Kinder, Glossop, Edale and Buxton teams were called out, together with a number of search and rescue dogs, after attempts to locate the two lost walkers by phone tracking had failed.

As search plans were being established, the two walkers walkers contacted Derbyshire Police again saying that they had managed to …

Archer Gate Fields, Edale

It was a beautiful afternoon when an experienced team member decided that a “Job Creation Scheme” was what the team needed to boost call-out numbers.  Whilst out for a day’s walk and descending from Grindslow Knoll he slipped on the wet grass just below Archer Gate and sustained ligament damage to his knee.

The pain was sufficient for him to decide to call for help but it was a decision he knew he would regret making.  The Joint Team Snatch Squad from Buxton and Edale rescue teams was called out and with …
