Dane Bower Quarries, Quarnford

The shortest call-out of the year!  North West Ambulance Service called for assistance with an injured female casualty in Dane Bower Quarries at 14.02 pm.  At 14.09 pm the ambulance service again contacted to state that an air-ambulance was on scene and that mountain rescue was not required.  Team members were stood down before they could tie their boot laces.

Millers Dale – Litton

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team responded to an urgent call from Derbyshire Police to assist an air-ambulance crew with a casualty on the hillside above Litton Mill.  Regrettably, despite the all the efforts of the ambulance paramedics, the middle aged man from Sheffield died at the scene.

Team members later carried the deceased to the Monsal Trail where police officers were able to carry out further investigations.

Buxton MRT members express their deepest sympathy to all friends and relatives of the deceased.

Great Shacklow Woods, Ashford

A joint Edale & Buxton snatch squad call to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service with a 76 year old female who had slipped whilst walking in the popular limestone area above the River Wye.

On hoilday from Cambridge with her family, the lady suffered a suspected fracture to ankle in a slip on the steep path to Sheldon.  Early treatment was carried out by ambulance staff whilst the mountain rescue teams were being mobilised.  Our members then carried the casualty back to White Lodge car park for transport by ambulance to a Derbyshire hospital.

High Peak Trail, Hurdlow

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service with a 64 year old female on the High Peak Trail, near Hurdlow.

The High Peak Trail follows a dis-used railway line. When a key-holder for the gate which keeps out trafffic was located it gave the ambulance direct access to the casualty site.  This saved a kilometre carry-out and the rescue team was stood down before most had arrived.

The casualty, from Buxton, had stumbled and sustained a hip injury in the fall.  She was taken by ambulance to a Macclesfield hospital.

Mam Tor, Castleton

Twenty eight members of the Buxton and Edale teams operating as a snatch squad were quickly able to respond from fundraising duties to a call out to assist a 40 year old female on Mam Tor.

The casualty, on holiday from Northhampton, had slipped whilst walking to the summit. She sustained a suspected fracture of the ankle.  Treated on site by team first aiders she was then carried by stretcher to the Nottingham – Leicestershire air-ambulance for transport to an A & E hospital.

Solomon’s Temple, Buxton

A middle of the night call out to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service with a 17 year old female casualty near to Buxton’s hill-top landmark.  Team members gathered at Pooles Cavern car park for the short but steep climb to Soloman’s Temple.

The casualty, a local girl, had been with friends in Temple Woods. She was walking towards the monument when she slipped and sustained a possible fracture to the right ankle.  Ambulance paramedics were first on scene and treated the injury which was obviously causing considerable pain.  Team members then lifted the girl onto a stretcher which was carried the 1 kilometre back …

Ramshaw Rocks, Staffordshire

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to Ramshaw Rocks near Leek.   A 50 year old male from Ashbourne had sustained a knee injury whilst walking with a small group of friends.  The accident caused a painful injury which was treated on site by team first-aiders before the casualty was carried by stretcher to the roadside to await an ambulance.

Mam Tor, Castleton

The Buxton and Edale Snatch Squad responded urgently to a 999 call reporting a 12 year old boy having fallen from the top of Mam Tor.

The boy, from Doncaster, had been walking with his father on the summit when he fell an estimated 15 metres down the east face near to Y Gully.   The youth sustained head injuries in the fall and was believed to have been unconscious for a period after the accident.  After treatment by mountain rescue doctors he was carried to the waiting Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air-ambulance for transfer …

Treak Cliff Cavern, Castleton

A joint Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Team snatch squad was called out to assist East Midlands Ambulance Service with a 62 year old female casualty on a steep path above Treak Cliff Cavern.

The lady, on holiday from Caerphilly, had been walking when a simple slip resulted in a suspected fracture of the right lower leg. The lady was treated on scene and given pain relief before being stretchered down the hill to a waiting ambulance for onward transport to a Stockport hospital.
