Stanage Edge

A joint snatch squad of Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue Teams called to assist an injured walker near the gritstone escarpment of Stanage Edge, above Hathersage.

The casualty, a 44 year old man from Brighton, slipped on wet rock on a route beneath the escarpment and fractured his lower left leg. He was treated on scene by MR and air ambulance crew before being evacuated by stretcher to the waiting helicopter. The carry-off was through high, dense bracken, and scattered boulders made slippery by the wet weather.

The gentleman was flown by air ambulance to a hospital in Chesterfield for further treatment.

Linacre Woods

Buxton Mountain Rescue Team called to assist Derbyshire Police in a daytime search for a missing person. The search was a continuation of overnight activity conducted by members of Edale MRT. Police helicopter and search dogs had also been involved.

The missing person, a 42 year old man from Dronfield, was last seen on the morning of the previous day. His locked car was found at Linacre Reservoir, near Cutthorpe, which is surrounded by woodland, dense undergrowth of brambles and bracken, and many footpaths.

Despite good daylight conditions, nothing was found, and Buxton team were stood down at 16:00. The search continues. …

Goyt valley

Buxton Mountain Rescue team called to assist police with a search for a
missing person in the Goyt Valley.

The missing person, a 56 year old woman from Buxton, was reported missing
from 18:30 on Sunday evening. Police located her vehicle in a car park
near the Fernilee and Errwood reservoirs, a favourite walking area of hers,
but were concerned for her well being. This is a terrain of moorland, steep
sided woods, streams and large expanses of water.

After an aerial search by police helicopters and local officers failed to
locate the missing person, search dogs, and mountain rescue teams from Buxton
and Kinder were called in …

Golden Clough

Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue teams called in a joint snatch squad to the south eastern edges of Kinder Scout.

The casualty was a female walker with an ankle injury at the top of Golden Clough. She was treated on site by team medics and evacuated by stretcher towards the Nab, lower down the valley. The teams were able to load her into an air ambulance at this point, and into the care of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland emergency services for onward travel and treatment at a hospital in Chesterfield.

Winnats Pass, Castleton

Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue teams called as a snatch squad to a walker with a medical condition above Speedwell Cavern.

The teams were stood down on arrival as the air ambulance was able to land close to the patient and hence did not require any additional assistance.

Stake side, Goyt valley

Buxton Mountain Rescue team were called to an incident not far from the Cat and Fiddle road this afternoon.

The casualty, a 37 year old woman from Bollington, was walking with a small family group when she decided to jump over a puddle, landed awkwardly, and broke her right ankle.

She was treated on site, and then carried by stretcher to a waiting ambulance for the onward journey to hospital.

As it was the lady’s birthday, the team felt obliged to sing to her in the customary manner – only she can judge whether this element of care was a soothing …

Millers Dale

Buxton Mountain Rescue team called to assist an injured walker in steep-sided limestone dale.

The casualty, a 52 year old man on holiday from Cleethorpes, had slipped descending some greasy steps and fell some distance, which resulted in injuries to both sides of his chest. He was treated on site by paramedics, and then carried on a stretcher by team members to a Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance waiting nearby for evacuation to hospital.

Cheedale

Buxton and Edale teams responded to calls for help, seemingly from injured climbers near Cressbrook.

As the police had received two separate reports, giving doubt as to the exact location of the incident, Edale was deployed  to Cressbrook Mill, and Buxton further west to Cheedale, according to the given grid reference. Buxton started a initial search for two climbers, but it soon turned out that the shouts had come from a member of a group who was not injured and who was able to walk off the hill under his own steam.

A joint Edale & Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams’ snatch squad were called to attend a 62 year old lady who had slipped on a path between Eyam and Stoney Middleton.

The lady from London, visiting the area for the Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Buxton, sustained a suspected fracture of the ankle. She was treated on site by team first aiders before being carried to a waiting ambulance in Eyam.

Hollins Cross, Castleton

Edale and Buxton Mountain Rescue Teams called to rendezvous at Woodseats Farm following the report of a mountain biker having fallen whilst descending The Great Ridge from Hollins Cross.

The biker, from Ilkeston, Derbyshire, was treated on scene by rescue team medics for suspected hip / pelvic injuries.  He was then carried by stretcher to a waiting air-ambulance for transfer to hospital for further examination and care.
