Incident report

A group of climbers was making the most of the fine weather by enjoying some routes in the quarry, when one fell a short distance making an awkward landing onto rocks and sustaining a lower leg injury.

Another member of the party made a 999 call to East Midlands Ambulance Service who were quickly on scene to provide initial medical treatment. EMAS then made a request for assistance from Buxton Mountain Rescue Team to help with the evacuation from the casualty site. With the close proximity to our Buxton base a speedy response to the callout was possible.

The light was fading team members began to arrive on scene with the equipment necessary to carry the casualty out to the road on a mountain rescue stretcher. A couple of short but steep sections were soon overcome, and with the aid of the wheel on the stretcher the casualty was soon at the road head and in an ambulance into the care of paramedics from EMAS.

As ever at this point all equipment used was then cleaned as per our Covid-19 policies before being packed away in the vehicles ready for the next callout.

We hope the casualty will make a speedy recovery and return to complete the rest of the climbing route.
