Incident report

Team members were returning home from the previous callout, when another request came through for a further joint callout with Edale Mountain Rescue Team, the third call out of the day was about to begin.

With a feeling of déjà vu, the team turned back. The instruction was for vehicles and team members to return to Edale Station car park to an incident somewhere near halfway rocks in Grindsbrook Clough, on the way up to the Kinder plateau. Team members from both Buxton Mountain Rescue and Edale Mountain Rescue met up to receive details about the incident and were quickly deployed onto the hill in joint sections. The good weather which had brought the walkers out, also made the swift climb up Grindsbrook a hot and sweaty one.

Thankfully, a party of walkers who had come across the casualty, had helped the lady with her descent from the steeper sections of the path to meet team members on their walk up.

An assessment of the arm injuries, sustained by the casualty in a fall, led to a decision to continue the casualty’s self-evacuation off the hill with Mountain Rescue team members on hand if further assistance was required. The casualty and partner were then transported in a team vehicle to their car, for onward transport to hospital and further medical care. We are grateful to the support given by the hill walkers who dialled 999, and those who assisted the casualty party at the time of the fall.

Team vehicles were then packed ready to be taken to respective bases and cleaned from risk of possible Covid-19 infection.

A busy day for both teams!

Our best wishes go to the casualty, and a speedy recovery to come back and complete the walk.
